Awaiting parts. They would have been here by now but the postal service took 6 days to deliver my priority envelope to them.

Update:
got everything apart, old bearing off, starting putting it back together with replacing that top bearing and find out.....
The Rod/Shaft that comes over from the PTO gear box is bent. ARGH!
So, now the wait for a replacement.
At least I know why the bearing went bad now.
I'll keep updating as it gets back together.
Thanks again to everyone for your insight, ideas and contacts.

Did you try straightening it?

I wouldn't know where to begin trying. Second problem is, the splines on it are twisted as well on both ends.
One thing for sure, I know how to dismantle the tiller. Figured I'd pull the other end off, and found the bearing on the other side for the tine rod is completely fried with no balls in it and full of weeds and string.

I understand if it is in that bad of shape. Sounds like your tiller is going to be pretty new mechanical wise when you get through. Somebody must have been using it with no shear pin or slip clutch. It took a mighty force to twist that shaft.

Yep, none of those were in place, and both u-joints were broken on the pto shaft that he surrender with it. Ill for sure be getting a slip or shear before I put it to work.

Quick additional question for those who have one of these tillers or are familiar.
First, I went aheads and dismantled most of the tiller looking for possible other problems,
On the Non-gear side of the tiller/tine shaft there is the Bearing Hub.
first, I took it off because it seemed full of weeds and twine etc.
Well there were no balls in that bearing, actually, you almost couldn't tell it was a bearing in there.
The Grease Zert was dies toyed as well. I got the bearing out finally both off the tine rod, and from inside the hub.
I'll see if I can get one to replace it.
second, Is the hub supposed to be one piece? The parts diagram makes it look like it supposed to come apart on the outside with a few bolts holding a cover in place. but, this is not how mine is at all.

Where as mine just looks like a bell/hub

Comments? Thanks

Mine is like the drawing. Makes no difference. You just have to go with what you have. Sort of looks like the outer bearing race has turned in your housing. Think so? Some people have gone back with a sealed bearing in that location. Looks as though there was never an oil seal in that location. Am I looking at something wrong or a piece missing?

Sure looks like a race was spinning to me unless there is some type of sealed press in bearing there but it still looks spun.
