yanmar tractor need held identifying what i have

new to yanmar tractors and this site . i need help on identifying which model
i have . it is a 2 cylinder diesel, 2wd water cooled . i suspect it is a model 1500 due to no water pump on engine . i was just wondering if there were
any engine numbers or frame numbers i could use to help id this tractor

There should be a rectangle shape in the sheet metal cowling around your left foot as you sit on the tractor...inside that rectangle and stamped into the casing should be a series of #'s starting with YM.

You should also have a green/silver embossed I.D. badge on the valve cover.

darwyns, pictures? If taken from all angles and of engine compartment, it'd go a long way to identify.. Espcially of the frame down by the foot rests.. Can see serial numbers, engine model, etc.

Maybe a YM1700? That would have a green engine model/serial tag down by the starter.

Like Mark said, the tractor model should be stamped by your left ankle.

Look more closely....use a light and a magnifying glass if necessary. If there is not a serial number stamped on the left side of the transmission, just around where an operator's left ankle would be, then something is amiss. Often it darkens with age and can be difficult to see.

i scraped away about 1/4 inch of paint and found these numbers 165-20192
so far these are all i have found thanks again for all the help

The YM165 was a 2 cylinder domestically sold model, smaller than the 1500 I think. Haven't seen one in many years. What size are the front and rear tires (look on sidewalls)? I suspect the 165 used a smaller tire than the 1500.

Also get the engine number....left side of engine slightly forward of the starter
and slightly lower than it.

oh, if it's a ym165 it's a keeper, of course in good working condition, etc. Again, i'd say pics of the unit will help others here in identifying the unit.

Ym 165 is very similar to the grey market YM 1300 series. Parts should not be a major problem and it is a good tractor. I believe that the engine and trany is the same. There may be some significant differences between the 165 and the 1300 as I am finding there are between the 186 and the 1510.

My guess would be that it is really a 2TR13a which is what is the correct engine for the 165. I dont think there is a 2TR18A.

Not a lot of help but I have an Official Guide book that shows the 165 was made from 1980-1986. It did not have any serial number information for compacts.
