Avoiding lawsuits 101. Depends on whether they actively try to avoid shipping parts to the US (which I doubt). If they do, someone in Japan will make a buck trans-shipping parts.

I have begun to wonder why someone hasn't gotten into the business of purchasing Yanmar parts in Japan to ship to the US? It seems as though someone could do quite well if they were willing to retain someone in Japan for an extended period.

I was happy to be able to help a couple of Yanmar dealers get some difficult to obtain parts for gray market tractors when I was able. It was a very small amount, and I didn't make any money (nor did I intend to), but It got me wondering.

I have a 1401. I hear that it is a close match to the american 169 model. If they decide to clamp down on the grey parts exporting should I be overly concerned? They should still be supporting the american models from what I read.

I just read the statment about grey market tractors in the link. Let me see if I have this right.
Americans are too stupid and careless to operate a tractor or any other equipment that was desinged for the japanese market.

No, Americans will sue anybody, anytime if something goes wrong (even if it is their own fault). Any product that does not disclaim everything and take every precaution will be sued out of existence. The first question asked when something goes wrong is not is the person okay, it is who is responsible (and somehow it can't be the pinhead who misused the product).

Remember, don't use you lawnmower to trim your hedges--it will cut off your fingers.

I have a YM2220D. After reading the "official" grey market BS I wonder...
My Yanmar tractor has pto sheilds, safety start switch, my throttle works as posted, no ROPS. However the "big 3" american tractor I have also has no ROPS, no pto sheilds, no safety start switch and the throttle works like my Yanmar. With the millions of JD, IH, CASE, and countless others still in service that are similar I wonder what is all the fuss about? Are the american manufacturers going to recall and refit the necessary safety equipment? No way in "the hot place". It looks to me that its more about making the buck than safety. Just my $0.02.

I don't understand the throttle issue. I'm farm raised and still live on a farm but I've not seen anything with that type of throttle. Although our equipment is outdated I've used newer equipment that functions the same. Hey maybe I'm outdated too. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
