Yanmar's "gray" position

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

If you are aware of any aftermarket manufactured parts for Yanmars, please pass that information on. I have found some things at TSC that could possibly be adapted to fit a Yanmar, but nothing that is manufactured specifically to fit a Yanmar. I'm especially interested in seeing some brave company get into the business of aftermarket ROPS for Yanmars that wouldn't cost more than what I paid for the tractor. I appreciate your optimism.

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

No one can keep an aftermarket part maker from making a part. You can't argue they are stealing business because you are not in the market. Now, assuming liability comes along with the manufacture, the aftermarket company may need to run a company that is essentially bare of assets (i.e. the aftermarket company leases everything from another company the same people own). In this way, if they are sued, they just shut one corporate entity down and start another and go on with business. No assets, nothing to sue for.

I bet it never gets that far. I bet that you will be able to mail order from a japanese company (or your grey dealer will). If they sell the parts somewhere, someone in Japan will be willing to make a buck.

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

So far I haven't found a part that I can't get. Most parts like seals, filters, clutch discs, bearings, grease fittings, fuel caps, injectors, alternators, starters....etc...etc... can be matched up with other models. I think that even some of the Yanmars use the same clutch disc that a Mitsubishi pickup truck does. There are so many of these tractors in the states, we will survive...

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

I don't know the extent of Yanmar's operations, but I would think that most of the parts like bearings, nuts, seals, etc etc are manufactured by a third party. If these can be identified, then getting parts should be easier. I know that most of the time you can take a bearing to a bearing supply house and get a replacement.

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

The real problem begins when you have a model specific part that must be replaced. I know of at least two instances where a broken gear is no longer available. Now gears can be made, but the cost of just one is high due to machine setup time. The only good thing is that after the first one, the remaining gears are relatively inexpensive.

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

Tom Fedricks in Hartsell AL. Has already started having hard to find parts made in the US and overseas. He is supposed to be looking for more all the time. A little positive news.

Re: Yanmar\'s \"gray\" position

Sell things that fit a particular use, but don't advertise or claim them for that use and you probably incur little liability. If someone buys a gear, and puts it in a transmission and it fails, as long as you did not advertise and sell it directly for that purpose, how can they be liable.
