FWJ, you need to rant more often as I enjoy reading them:)

I always hated driving thru towns when I use to ride a motorcycle, and I hate it even worse if I am pulling a trailer, and it gets downright ugly if I drive a tractor and baler thru town or pull a loaded hay wagon. One town is worse then the rest though and I try to avoid it:rolleyes:

My wife would agree with you in her own terms. I need to rant here on TBN more, and maybe less at the dinner table if you listen to her appraisal of the situation. ;)

Yesterday after work I drove the 6430 and batwing about 4 miles on the highway to bring it in for service. I had this one jerk (that had obviously been held up in traffic behind me) pass, then whip in on me to cut me off. He was blowing his horn and flipping me the bird as he did it. I wonder what would have gone through his mind if he would have clipped my front wheel.... On 12,500 lbs of tractor. I doubt his Ford Ranger pick-em-up would have came out on the winning end.

I don't like being inconvenienced either, but anger and retaliation is not the way to make things better.

Not that I haven't done it myself but...

Doing things to piss off other drivers in retaliation for what they did is pointless. Unless you can somehow _explain_ to them why what they did was wrong all you have done is plain 'road rage' for no gain.

An example was up thread about he guy who pulled into a gas station and blocked the ricer behind him. What did he accomplish? What would he have gained if, while filling, he had explained to the kid just why he did it?

My favorite is the tailgaters. I have been followed for miles by them making no attempts to pass even with many opportunities or in cases where it is illegal to pass. I have a section going down canyon for 3 miles on way to town. No passing all the way right up to the town limit. Yep, regularly tailgated at 1 or 2 car lengths the entire way. Do they think they are going to get there any faster?

Another is the "compulsive passer". There is a 13 mile stretch of 2-lane hwy between towns posted 60. Traffic is heavy, road is curvy, passing chances are slim to none. Even where site lines permit there will almost always be traffic coming. The comuters (most traffic is local) know that the best procedure is to make you space behind the car ahead of you who will be going near or above the limit anyhow and enjoying the drive. There will almost always be some jerk trying to pass even though he can see ahead and see the strings of cars ahead. Even those who succeed rarely gain more than 2 car lengths in the 13 miles.

Afternoon Harry,
Thats one of my pet pieves also ! ;) If you can pass a slow moving vehicle with no traffic coming in the opposite direction and no more slow vehicles up in front of you, go for it ! But as you say, to move up a couple car lengths is absolutely crazy, I have had this done to me many times especially on RT #22 in Ny on the way up and back to my Vt residence. Actually had this car that had NJ plates on it do this, he ended up in front of me because there was a long line of cars that you just couldnt get by, after about 20 miles he would look in his rear view mirror and I would wave to him  yep Im the same guy that you nearly killed yourself and your family to move up in line another 20 ft !

My pet peeve is individuals who are in such a hurry, they think they need to use the fact that people ahead of them have pulled over to let an emergency vehicle pass as an opportunity to pass and leapfrog ahead of everyone else.

When I am slow on the road - like pulling a heavy trailer - I keep an eye on the rear view mirror and pull over every so often to make sure nobody is stuck behind me too long.

But I am about the only one who does it - I never experienced it myself. Typicall slow truck will stay on the road for miles and miles with many cars behind him stuck forever without a chance to pass.

People around here like to stack up behind a tractor on the two-lane roads so close together that even if you have the horsepower to pass you have to pass 10 cars at once or none. And none of THEM will ever pass (even with 1 full mile of passing zone!) or let you back in if you try to make some headway. I either sit back and look for all the things that I can't see at 55 or I turn off on a dirt road. I'd rather be on a dirt road than doing 20 on pavement with my blood pressure spiking up and down with all the brake lights!

When I am on roads big enough to pull over I will pull over only for the truckers as it is a lot harder for them to pass. Cars and pickup trucks can pass by just fine as this road has plenty of room and passing chances. If I am narrow enough I stay on the shoulder as Rt 20 has 8' wide shoulders. If I am over 8' wide I stay in the lane and make sure I take up as much as I can but still allow drivers to see around me. I use to try and leave room but the more room I left the more oncoming cars were run off the road as you always get the one or two guys at the end of the line who think they can either make it or are more important then everyone else.

As busy as this road is now I would never make it to the field if I kept pulling over for every car that comes up.:(

Having spent a lot of time driving or towing RVs, I did that, too. And if an 18-wheeler overtook me on a 2 lane road, I'd tell them on the CB that I'd let them know when it was safe to come around and that I'd slow down as soon as they started around. I don't recall a single one of them who didn't have a CB and respond.

ROAD RAGE !!!!!!!
Last weeknd a 40 year old man was shot in the chest and died round here due to road rage. he followed a 65 year old man into a parking lot chased him around his car and the old guy shot him. its legal in oklahoma to defend yourself with any means now.

I find myself pulling over all the time to let people by and i stay in the slow lane when im going the limit or under. I get real upset when im trying to back a trailer in and people crowd me and honk, ugggg.

I have 2 favorite things to do to people who ride my rear end when they dont need to. If i am just in my truck i take the opertunity to wash their windshield for them, just hold that winshiled squirter down for a few extra seconds and they get the spray, its kinda funny. If i am pulling my trailer i let the trailer pick up some road debris off the shoulder and peper their car with it. :D

I like those...

Unfortunately, my washers won't do that. The second one I'll keep in mind tho...
