Hey Rox.. you don't supose that Rudolf Diesel had anything to do with creating the diesel engine back around 1893 do ya? ;)

Notice I said "I believe" rather than stating it as fact. I read it was Yanmar, but it wasn't something I ever verified. I guess I just learned something new.

Yeah.. I did notice that you said believe.. that's why i posted it..

I think some of the confusion comes from Yanmar's website, Yanmar America Corporation. The first sentence reads, "Our company was founded in 1912 and developed the world's first commercially viable small diesel engine in 1933."

Yep, that's where I got that thought!

..Talked with a couple of guys I know today who do the same thing I do about this situation and they brought up an interesting point.. They said that the smaller "heavy lawn mowers" (Deere 455) would pull the load OK, but where ya ran into trouble was with the front end losing traction or coming completely off the ground and causing ya to lose steering.. That sounds annoying.. They also were pretty hellbent that 4WD was the way to go for both function and resale..

..Anyways, they both recommended going with the relatively heavier compact tractors ala the Kubota B's, BX's, and the like..

 **SIGH** It's fun hunting down this thing, but I'm ready for some new hardware to play with.. :D:cool:

..Yeah, LB.. I know.. :p:D

..Ya gotta understand tho' that a good chunk of my enjoyment does come from "the hunt".. I like to explore every option I can come up with prior to pulling the trigger on something.. It's paid off well over the years and I've met some neat folks in the process, so I consider it important.. :)
.. I may not do exactly what somebody "in the know" tells me is best but you can bet that the advice is in the consensus and is not wasted.. I've prolly already made the decision as to what I oughtta get, I'm just comparing other options against it to see if it holds up..

..And I'm waitin on a deal.. The only sure-fire way I know to flush one out is to buy the same thing for $2K more the day before.!!:rolleyes::cool: d:^) Schneeky..

That would be the front end lifting up if/when you are using the 3 pt hitch with a ball mount to move trailers ?
This is part of the reason a loader helps, you don't have to carry the bucket itself around all the time, but the weight of the loader frame up front helps.
Once you have the loader frame it is easier/simpler to put a hitch on the front and use that for moving trailers around.
Also, DIESEL engines are quite a bit heavier than gas engines, so there is some more up front weight for you.
I don't know the particular "heavier" lawn mowers ("Garden tractors" ?) you are referring to, but if they're air cooled... yet another lack of weight.

Not to beat on KooBooBoos, but they ain't the heftiest CUTs around (-:
An advantage to some, supposedly they are gentler on lawns, but for hauling things around and ground engaging implements - tractors are tractors, "MASS MATTERS" and mowers are mowers.

Boats, boats, boats...
I was out playing on the water again.
My boat weighs about 2100 lbs, the trailer about 1100, say 3500 loaded = about 500 lbs on the ball.
The boat I was skiing behind friday weighs around 4,000 {wicked nasty wake}, probably on a 1500 lb trailer, loaded maybe 6,000 = ~900 lb on the ball.
Then there's the friend who pulls tubes around and makes all the waves.
6,000 lb boat, 2,000 lb trailer, 8,000 PLUS total, probably 1250 on the ball.

These all have fairly large V8 gas engines, but there is a whole range of run-abouts with V6s and straight 4s, that weigh less. Then the "row boat with outboard".

So, which range of boats probably determines which range of tractors.
"Row boat with a 10 HP outboard" - - garden tractor might work.
"25ft cuddle cabin with a big V8 or ANY kinda TWINS" - - different situation, probably use the truck that pulled it in there.

As I said earlier..:)

..Seems like a long time ago that this thread started.. I can see where the FEL would be very handy, and I'd love to have one.. But they also usually drive the price up out of the range I wanna pay for something right now.. I'd like to stay under $7K, well under if possible.. I just don't have that bigofa job for it to justify the cost.. 'Course, everytime I turn around now I say something about "if I had one of those loaders I could..." Miz Sandy sez she can already see it comin, but I'm still fightin it..
.."Heavy lawn mowers" refers to the JD 455's and such in my case..
..And yeah, for the bigger boats they ain't goin in the backyard anyways so the truck can keep that duty..

The boat I was skiing behind Friday weighs around 4,000 {wicked nasty wake}

..And a wicked nasty gas bill also.!!:D Cuddle cabin, huh.. You must be long married.. Down here it's a "stabbin cabin".. d:^) Schneeky..
