How do you get under the lawn tractor to remove the blades to sharpen them? NOTE: the loader and bucket were propped up and secure before I went under.

I bought my uncle's 1971 Ford 3/4 4wd PU (33K original!) to keep it in the family. It came with a plow that seemed to weigh almost as much as the truck itself. When I stored the truck in my barn, I slid the plow out of the back end of the PU onto the ground since I didn't want to leave all that weight on the rear suspension.

Fast Forward to this spring when I bought my new tractor. Suddenly the Ford is taking up valuable parking space in my barn. So now I have to put the plow back in the truck and drive the whole thing over to a neighbor's barn to store it.

Tied a chain to the plow and lifted it straight up with the FEL. Backed the PU underneath it and then set it gently into the bed. Never touched the side of the box. Sweet.

That was priceless :D

Having just gotten through the new home thing, I understand the differance in priorities. I have a kitchen that is worth more than my tractor, truck and motorcycle and a wife that treats me like a GOD, well she keeps presenting me with burnt offerings.

and completely true.

The FEL is great. As Soundguy mentioned using it to move the trailer around this weekend, I also ripped out bushes, popped out rocks, caved in groundhog holes, hauled logs, and what was that other thing ... oh yeah, moved a dirt pile.

The wife calls it her voice controlled 4 wheel frive wheel barrow.

To make them even more useful add a set of lift forks to it if you have a removeable bucket. Then you have the grapples you can add also. Neat toys (I mean tools).

I have just got my tractor with a loader recently. But, I do work in residential construction and am around loaders all the time. I always said that if I got a loader I would surely get the pallet forks. Well, I did and so far I have used the forks far more than the bucket. I just can't get over how handy it is to have a loader.
We had a storm the other day that blew over a 10" diam. hackberry tree about 30' tall. It fell into the hay field. I about peed in my pants with excitement. I ran and hopped on my tractor and my 10 yr old son with me (going very slow safety police). We pushed the tree out of the field effortlessly. When finished my son said, "Dad, that was cool". By my son saying that plus the joy of the tractor itself, it was surely worth the $20,000.

Haven't got the guts to do what herringchoker does. I just drive the front two wheels of my riding mower into the bucket, curl it slightly and then lift it up. Makes it quick and easy to take the blades off to sharpen.

Last night I had a huge brush pile burning behind the house. Was about 500 yards from the garage. After it burnt down I wanted to drop some water on it so that it wouldn't light back up when I walked away. I didn't have any containers other than 5 gallon buckets conveniently available. I didn't want to carry it that far! <lazy> I drove the tractor up to the garage and filled the bucket half full of water. Drove down to the fire and used a small bucket to spread it around. Then dumped what was left right in the middle! =)

I shouldve read up on these about 2 weeks ago....

Lesson learned: Dont pick the front end of the mower up so far that the oil leaks out the air cleaner! Whoops.
