Ok so I have been doing a lot of research and think I am going to get the
Woodmaxx SB48 snowblower. It is a 48" blower that I would be using on my 155d. It is on the heavy side weighing 529 pounds. I know my little 155 only has 3hp at the pto and this blower is rated for 15-25 pto hp, but I am confident it can handle it. The reason I would like the
Woodmaxx is because is has a replaceable cutting edge and has great reviews. I figure I could use this blower on my 2210d too if I needed too, the only thing is my rear tires would be out about 3.5"s on both sides of the blower. Any thoughts on the
Woodmaxx for my 155?
Thanks
The problem is going to be that the YM155 has a transmission-driven PTO. There is no separate PTO clutch; the ground speed controls the snowblower RPM. Just like a pre-1950s low end farm tractor.
At one time Yanmar built a matching snow blower for the YM155 tractor. I don't know how you would find one - maybe try some of the folks like Hoye that sell old Yanmar parts? Yanmar built the YMS-48 (48" wide) snowblower to match the YM155(D) tractor. It was popular and lots were sold. if you found one it would be 30 to 40 years old now and would definitely require some maintenance..., but even considering its age, it was considerably more sophisticated than the most snow blowers are today.
It had to be sophisticated and efficient, considering that the YM155(D) only has 15 hp at the best of time and because that transmission-driven PTO means it always has to split those 15 hp between running the tractor and the snowblower simultaneously.
Something to consider when looking at snowblowers is since your YM155 has a transmission-driven PTO without a separate clutch, it helps a lot when the snowblower has some sort of clutch built in. Not an over-running clutch, a go/nogo clutch.
The YMS-48 also had replacable skid shoes and cutting edges - although I think all snow blowers have that.
It also had a 2 stage blower, separate switchable clutch, worm gear drive auger, hydraulic power both up and down, sealed bearings throughout, and a hydraulically aimed deflecter chute. Because of the power down, it could get away with only weighing 350 lbs or so
.
Anyway, those are the kinds of features I'd be looking for if I were to put one on my YM165 - or on any snowblower.
Best of all, the Yanmar snowblower mounted to the FRONT of the tractor. You drove facing forward.
Price in 1980 was about $800 - I'd expect a good used one to be close to that. It would bring that around here.
