Thanks for the info. I measured the distance between the fenders and there is only about 18" clearance. That limits the choices. Maybe I will try some more padding and springs before investing in a new seat. You can really spend a lot of money getting all the little tractor enhancements and accessories that you think you can't live without. For instance I still need front bumper weights, tilt meter, work light, tool box, etc. Since buying the tractor I have bought a box blade, bush hog, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, sway chain (it vibrated loose and came off), fuel can, water wetter, air compressor, oil filter wrench, set of Craftsman wrenches, bimetal hole saw, hydraulic jack, etc. Wow! I just realized how much the tractor really costs. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. I hope my wife does not realize it. They say a sailboat is a hole in the water where you pour money. I guess that makes a tractor the land based equivelant. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for the info, I was envisioning some sort of flat with a bend over each of the coils and bolted thru the middle, your way sounds much easier! I have some springs off an office chair that I'm going to add to mine, hence the question. I also thought I might just weld the bottom of the coil down...........
It's pretty narrow getting on and off my 1602D, so I'm going to replace the rubber bushings at the front where it tilts with some bronze bushings, it tends to tip when I put weight on one side when climbing in and out..............

Finally got around to snapping a picture. They fit perfect into the existing rubber bushings. No tools required!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Now I've got a little bounce in the seat, and it's not leaning way back. Thanks again!

The seats seem to be one of the differences between the US and Japanese Yanmars. The seat on my YM240 is comfortable. It's the same shape and size as those molded plastic cafeteria chairs, with an adequately high back. I've seen two different posters on TBN also describe these as comfortable.

My local Deere dealer once carried the Yanmar-USA line and can still order parts. He told me he ordered a YM240 seat for a YM2000 and it was too wide to fit the mount. I tried to get a YM2000 seatcover off ebay for my YM240 but the dimensions were too small, and the YM2000 seat I got from the local VN importer was for the narrow mount shown in cwarrix's photo, not the wider mount on my YM240.

If anyone ever gets the opportunity to salvage the seat and mounting hardware off a YM240, I recommend go for it.

I just checked your brochure, and you are right, the YM240 does have a nicer seat than even my semi-high back, YM2000B.

My biggest complaint was that the seat was leaning way back. I'm assuming because the little rubber things are worn, but maybe it's just designed that way. Anyway, adding the springs brought it right up where it's not leaning anymore, and it now has a little bounce to it, even with 220 pounds sitting on it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It's not all that uncomfortable, however it is nowhere as nice as the stock seat from my Cub Cadet GT /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I guess if I wanted to put some work into it, I could modify a bracket for a bigger, thicker seat. I don't have enough seat time to justify that ... yet.

Hi Bob can you move the fenders out any for more clearance? I made spacers and moved mine out 1 inch on each side and it gave me the clearance to put an nice TSC seat on mine. I just used some old skateboard wheels that I remove the bearing from to give me the added height. Take a look at the link for some ideas.

That is good information. I never thought about moving the the fenders out. I have turned around my tires and filled them with water. That gives me more clearance between the wheels and the fenders anyway. You guys are right about the Japanese model seats. It is one of those pan type with some cheap foam paddig and quite frankly is not wide enough for me. I like your tires too unfortunately, I think I still need the AG tires because my land is hilly and swampy in places. I have springs all over my property.

I don't want to highjack the thread but, I have also been looking into front weight as well. How much do the lead weights weigh?

Thanks for the pictures on the springs. I think I will try that until I decide what to do replacing the seat. A cheap upgrade is always a plus.
