YM 1700 sleeves

I don't have my manual handy, but I strongly suspect the difference in bore size will go totally unnoticed except with a micrometer. No different than boring a car engine to clean it up.

I was beginning to think that.. especially if the block is the same size. Add to that... if the block is the same.. that means the 1700 sleeves have a thicker wall than the 2000 sleeves... I think I would rather have the thicker walls....any comments?

The bore on a YM1700 is 85mm verses 90mm for a YM2000.

That's a bigger difference than I would have thought, however it should work.
Kryp, I hope you have done enough troubleshooting to convince yourself this is the problem, as it will be an expensive repair if wrong. I looked back to your original posts on Yahoo and you mentioned water squirting up thru head but couldn't tell from where. (valve guides?) I would check that block really close for cracks and if sleeves are leaking there will probably be corrosion.

I am not sure what my next step will be on this one, I wanted to get the head pressure tested but it seems no one here does it. I had the head magafluxed and shaved but a pressure test would tell all on the head, looks like I may have to ship the head off for that or make a plate to bolt on it and do it myself and then use the plate on the block but I am not sure if standard water pressure will be enough of a test. I can also drop the pan yank out the sleeves and change the just the o-rings for a cost of about $50.00 in parts and thats the game plan I have so far.

Sounds like some good ideas. If you can make a plate to bolt over the block, you could use a radiator pressure tester, I don't think too expensive, to test the block. Don't know how you could pressurize the head. If you get a leak then pull the sleeves and inspect everything carefully with a good light and a big magnifying glass.

To test the head I would bolt the head and plate together with a gasket, seal front water pully housing and use the upper radiator outlet to test with. Radiator pressure tester(Hum) sounds good to me and that will be my next step unless I am missing something about the head your talking about. I know I can not see to much topside on the head but it should let me know on a crack.
thanks

Kerry,

We can check and/or repair the head if you have no one else near you. One year warranty on the head.

Thanks,
Bruce
