The fellow I'm buying the YM1700 from doesn't know much about Yanmars and doesn't have the book. He replaced the starter but is still having truble getting it started. He said it doesn't use glo plugs so is wondering if there is some trick? He say's there is a small container about 2x2" with a tube running out of it that appears to having something to do with priming it. Any counsel? Hoping to take delivery tomorrow. I'm clueless on this. Thanks, Steve

Fill the little bottle with diesel fuel. Get on tractor. You will have a key switch that has a position counterclockwise to the OFF position that is Thermostart. Turn the key to there and the fuel will drip in to the intake manifold and will be ignited by a small coil that will in turn warm the air in the intake manifold which aids in starting a cold engine much like glow plugs. On some Yanmars I have seen a chrome looking button on the dash that you push while the key switch is in the ON position. Of course for either of these to work the coil and associated wiring, etc has to be working.

Good luck with it. Unless where you are is really really cold, the Yanmars are usually easy starting tractors and rarely here in North Alabama have I ever used it. The only time I had to use it was on a big YM2620D Yanmar. The temp was in the low teens.

Another way to help start is to use the compression release lever. Ther eis a little lever on the lower left side, with linkage running to the valve train. You can pull this and the engine will spin over faster due to no compression. This helps build some oil pressure faster, under no load. Then you release the lever, and usually fire right up. This in connection with the thermostart should get you in business.

TBN T-Shirts - Pick Colors
#358334 - 01/05/04 06:14 PM Edit Reply Quote

Ok guys, this has been a long time coming... by popular demand, we're kicking off 2004 with TBN t-shirts.

Our plan is to go with the standard TractorByNet.com logo in the center, about 12-13" wide, as shown below.

The t-shirt itself will likely be a Hanes "Beefy T" in sizes M-5X. The colors we're considering are...

This is a photo rendering, so the real shirts will look better.

The TBN T-Shirt Color I Want is...
White
Orange
Washed Green
Royal Blue
Black

View the results for this poll

The results of this poll will determine which shirts will be made, and hopefully next week some time we'll take pre-orders as we did with the hats.

If everything goes smoothly you guys should be wearing your TBN shirts by the end of the month.
