He stated he just cleaned the fuel bowl,Tank,New Lines and was stored in a Garage/Barn. Hopefully he can coggle up something to pull the injectors. Still could of had water in the Fuel Can when he filled it?

I kind of remember you, didnt someone sell you a 1500 with a "gasketed starter" that had an oil leak from the rear main or something? If i remember right the seller made it right for you?

I think Carey and Cali are right on here. If it wont pull start your going to have to at least pull the injectors and see what the pattern is and then test compression once there out.

i think California has cobled up something to pull injectors and maybe Domush on his rebuild he did? I dont remember about Domush i think he made up a liner puller but dont remember about the injectors? He had a huge and detailed back yard rebuild thread on his 336 or 3110 or something like that.

If mine, I would pull the exhaust manifold and attempt to start. A plugged exhaust can cause a no/poor start problem.

Being stored inside and I believe you stated no signs of Rodents. If you have one of these on the Muffler. Very doubtful. If so was the lid opening when trying to start it?

I pulled my muffler off the outlet piece this last week. The OE muffler looks to be cut off the original base and a aftermarket one is slid down over the pipe. It was not fitting tight and i was getting exhaust blowing by the connection so i took it off and smoothed out the rough casting on it so that the pipe would then slide down over it better. Anyway once off i rinsed it out with water and could not beleive the carbon that flowed out of the muffler. I rinsed it both ways several times till it was not flowing mass carbon out. And after all this it sits down on the outlet better but still blows the same amount buy the muffler pipe...oh well? Its just under heavy accelleration or heavy loads does it blow out the connection point so i can live with it.

Point to this long diatribe is that there can be quite a bit of built up carbon like Norm mentioned.

I get alot of buildup on my lid. Which I clean off but with no signs of any buildup in the muffler after 7Yrs. That was last year when I removed the Muffler to see about pointing it forward and try and keep the Exaust down. I would of had to cut up the Muffler an shorten it to keep it from sticking out past the front bumper. Deciced that was probly not a good idea and I definatly wasn't cuttin it up. Not that bad of exhaust smoke to justify it.

Thanks Careyo,
It is a valve checking weekend among other things. I am also leaning towards a compression issue. I guess that its possible that a ring or a seal just gave out over the winter.
More later

Just thinking of possible problems short of needing a rebuild: Maybe that's not diesel but water coming out of the injectors? And the spray pattern should be a 360* spray, rather than a 3 ft spurt.

When you crank or pull it and it doesn't fire - what is coming out of the exhaust? White would be adequately vaporized fuel, or water vapor, while black is partial combustion.

From your description it sounds like you have some compression so pulling should fire it off - so long as that stuff coming out of the injectors is volatile.

Maybe collect a sample at the injector lines into a jar to see if it's water. You've probably read that diesel after it goes through the injectors is at so much pressure that it can penetrate skin and poison you. So it would be better to loosen the lines at the injectors, stand back a safe distance, and let it dribble into your collection bottle(s). Think safety.

Hello California,
I know for certain that I am getting clean new fuel at the injectors. I have bled enough fuel at each bleed point and at the fuel lines at the injector to probably fill a gallon jar!! I have bled this tractor at least a dozen times now.
And when I mentioned a 3' spray, I meant that it sprayed from the fuel lines that feed the injectors, not the injectors themselves.
I like the pictures of the injector puller that was home made. I have a similar design in mind as I think I have an injector getting stopped up on my YM226 as well.
I certainly have a big weekend coming up.'
Thanks again sir..

Hey Clemsonfor,
You do remember my last summer problems with a very ugly and troublesome YM1500. It had a rear seal gone bad that the guy who sold it to me replaced at his cost. It also ended up with a bad Oring and I had to do a partial rebuild. Everything but the sleeves. I built a weird looking sleeve puller that worked to pull bith sleeves, or get them started moving. It broke right as I busted loose the back sleeve. It was sledgehammer time after that.
That tractor would actually pick up a King Cutter heavy duty 6' finishing mower and run down the street with it. It would cut heavy grass as well. I didn't use it with a 6' mower as a rule though.
