YM1700 and a 60 inch finish mower

I have had my YM1700 only for a few weeks and love it. I currently have a tiller and a 48" brush hog. when I am mowing with the brush hog on hills it some times will lift the front wheels off the ground but on flat ground its fine. I think I just need some weights in the front to help out a bit.

my real question is I have an opportunity to purchase a 60" finish mower at a good price. I know I want to get a finish mower but was looking for a 48" one based on my brush hog issued I just talked about. has anyone run a 60" is it too big even if I get some weights. I dont want to buy it then be unhappy and unable to use it. Also I dont want to do anything dangerous. I would only be mowing trails and the field with the finish mower but there will be some hills involved.

I don't think there is any way in Heck you could use the FM in taller grass. If you cut every week or so and it's not thick probably yes. I have used a 6ft FM behind my ym2000 and it was almost all it could do to spin it up. I mean it cut but it was basically going flat out and unless the grass was short I was only taking 4-5 foot bites. Your lacking 3hp from my tractor that would be necessary I would think to use the 5 at optimum results.

I am sure it can be done but probably if your anything larger than golf course fairway type grass and height you will be rolling coal like I was the whole time I had the deck in tall grass.

I guess I would use my brush hog on tall grass and the finish mower to do the lawn and trails what are done regularly so the grass never gets that long and is kind of thin type grass anyway. thanks you for your reply

I was useing it on lawn grass. But it was not mowed regularly.

I think I should probably just stick with my plan and keep looking for a 48"

If say stick to 48". BUT if I was you and I could get a deal on it where I know I could sell it for the same thing I bought it for without much trouble I would buy it and try it.

If you listen to all the internet arm chair tractor operators and experts there is no way I am running a 5ft bush hog with my tractor. Well I will say there wrong. I don't all the time and even have video evidence to prove them wrong. Haha

Did that 6 foot one you were using lift up the front of your tractor when you lifted it? wonder what the weight difference is between a 6 foot and a 5 foot?

Yea. When it was in the air and you hit a bump going fast. I have around 150# hanging off my front bumper also!

This was a bush hog brand. Was a quality build. I'd have to go back and look but it was in the 600# range

I have an about 40" long 3" outer diameter solid steel round stock piece of steel (weighs about 75 pounds). Also have an about a 48" long 3" inner diameter piece of steel pipe filled with lead (weighs around 100).

Both of them are welded to angle iron that is drilled and then bolted to the front bumper. It basically looks like a double tube bumper.
