Tractor
Yanmar YM2500
Hey ya'll,

Which tractor would you buy out of the YM2000 and the YM2010? Both tractors coming from a good reputable dealer. NOT Vietnam recons.

I know a good bit of information on the YM2000. But, I haven't really found anything on the 2010. I know NOTHING about this tractor. Is it compatible with the U.S. YM240, like the YM2000 is? Is the YM2010 very common? IS THERE GOOD PARTS SUPPORT? Please let me know ANY AND ALL information on the YM2010.

Do both models use the same filter numbers?

Thanks,
Travis

I haven't sold any YM2000's. Have sold a YMG2000D 3 cylinder. Nice tractor. The YM2010 is a 3 cylinder powershift model, newer than the YM2000 2 cylinder. Nothing wrong with the 2 cylinder models, but they are older, make more noise, most don't have water pumps. etc. If it's 4x4 (D series) , sometimes the older ones are harder to find front end parts for.

YM2000 HAS a water pump, is probably the easiest of all models for parts support, and among the easiest to work on. Make sure it's a later red ("A" in the serial#) model and not an early green one. Should be a substantial price difference between the 2000 and 2010 if they are comparable quality. 2010 is also a very solid model, several years newer, powershift, 3 cylinder. I like both very much. Any diesel makes enough noise that I wear hearing protectors when mowing, but the 2 cylinders are louder.

Is the YM2010 as easy to work on as the YM2000?

What about parts availability?

Reliability?

Any pictures on the net of the 2010 from the operator's seat?

Explain the Power Shift Transmission. I haven't been on a Yanmar with this feature. Is it all one BIG transmission, or is there separate places (transmissions) on the tractor to drain/fill the transmission/hydraulic fluids.

Thanks for the replies so far. I don't know anything about the YM2010. That is why I am asking all of these questions. I AM DEBATING BETWEEN THE 2000 AND 2010 (both 2wd and no loaders.)

Thanks,
Travis

Come on ya'll. I need alot of info on the YM2010. I am seriously fixing to buy a tractor around February of 05', if not before. Definately no later.

100 people has viewed my thread. ONLY 3 replies.

HELP!!

Thank you Jimstractors and LMTC for your replies.

Travis,

Seems like LMTC and Jims Tractors covered most everything pertinent to those two models. I would take the shuttle shift model over the other 2000. Both would be good for brush hog or finish mower but not for FEL. No 4x4 negates the loader.

What will you be doing with the tractor?

Regards, Mark

It's easy. The 2010 is smoother, a little heavier, has a more versatile transmission, nicer dash, quieter, etc. The big advantage to the 2000 is as LMTC pointed out, it is perhaps the best supported Yanmar out there in terms of parts. Even so, I'd go with the 2010.

Thanks Mark and Dave.

Mark,

The main reason I am getting the tractor is because it will be my main hobby. Now withn that said, the main use for the tractor will be bush hogging. Then making a garden, deer food plots, and last but not least, box blading.

I will be keeping the tractor at my grandmother's house which is about 1/2 mile from my house. That is where most of its life will be spent. (bush hogging 4 or 5 acres and making her a garden.)

I have never had or worked on a diesel engine before, but I do have a couple mechanics that can work on my tractor for me. I've done checked into that before I even buy a tractor. As a matter of fact, the primary mechanic that will be working on my tractor is the same one thats going to build my ROPS and install a seat belt. But thats later on.

I am concentrating on GETTING the tractor now. I've been doing a lot of research on Yanmar tractors for a long time . I think that a Yanmar is a right choice for me. MY MAIN CONCERN IS A GOOD DEALER AND A MODEL WITH GOOD PARTS SUPPORT.

I didn't want to post what I am fixing to say. But, maybe i'll get more results.

I am deciding as far as dealers, it will be either Liberty Tractor in Missisippi, or, as you all know, Hoye Tractor. I have already talked to Mr. Stan with Hoye on the phone. Very very friendly and knowledgeable. Liberty Tractor is ALOT closer to home than Hoye. If Hoye was where Liberty Tractor is, it wouldn't be no question who to buy from. Liberty gives me a 6 month powertrain warranty, whereas Hoye don't give me a (fixed time frame) warranty. From what I have heard about Hoye, you really don't need a warranty because their tractors are top notch! I would like a parts and labor warranty though. Just about everyone around here is telling me to go to Liberty, but I tell myself to go with Hoye. They say, "If something goes wong with your tractor, how are you going to get it taken care of with a dealer that far away from home?" I have no answer to give them. Liberty "reconditions" their tractors at their dealership in Liberty, Mississippi. They put it on a dyno and go from there.
I just don't know what to do. I'm tired of aggravating my self with this. What would you do?

Oh yeah, Liberty has the YM2000 and Hoye has the YM2010.

Help,

Travis

Travis, OK, I got it now. Too bad Liberty doesn't have the 2010 or Hoye was a little closer. For what you are going to do, and IMHO, either tractor will serve you well.

I think either dealer will do you fine. Hoye's location probably wouldn't be an issue if the tractor has NO Warranty issues. From them it probably won't have any anyway. One thing to remember is the type of work you are planning will take many implements: blade, spreader, plow &/or disk, bushhog, tiller, etc. They need to be sized for your tractor.
