YM2000 PTO position

YM2000 owners, please help me understand the correct positioning of the PTO lever. I have understood the lowest position (as you sit on the tractor seat) to be the lowest speed (540) then neutral and higher speeds as you raise the lever. Is this correct?

I saw just the opposite on a YM540 tractor currently displayed on e-bay. 540 was at the highest position, then neutral and 1000 as you lower the lever. Maybe the 540 and 2000 are different. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Is it possible that I have been operating my bush hog at the highest position when all along (with the lever in downward position) I thought I was at the correct 540 position? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think that is a YM240, which is different from the YM2000. The correct postion for the YM2000 is.......down is close to 540, then Neutral, then 7-800 ( I think), then highest is 1000-1100 RPM.

My tractor is a F 20 D and has a 4 speed PTO I have looked at some other models manuals and they all indicate that the first 2 speeds wheather 2 or 4 speed are like you stated. down is 1st and up is second They are the inboard lever on a 4speed. and the outboard lever is 3 down and 4 up. What I do know is that the pto speed is as follows pto 540 at engine speed of 2400 rpm and 1000 at engine speed of 2400 rpm In other words all are based on and engine RPM of 2400.

You are correct that the lowest position for the lever is 540 on your 2000. If you had been running the mower in the high position you would probably know it by now. At 800-1000 rpm the gearbox overheats and it sounds as if it is about to take off.
