Bunches of those scam ads on Craigslist....I get all excited on the subject heading and then "click"......booo hisss a totally unrealistic deal appears. By the way, the original dealer has said the 2000BD will be on the lot tomorrow. Inadvertently, I ran across his supplier and he has virtually the same deal but with less warranty....3mo. I am waiting to hear back from yet another dealer for a price. But I think I am going to roll the dice on the original deal if he can deliver. If there isn't a 2000BD on the lot tommorrow that passes my scrutiny, I will go elswhere. Oh and Carey, I may go with a tiller from the same place you got yours.....anything I should look for when selecting one from the pile? The checkbook is armed and dangerous.

A whole pile of em. I had a choice 1 at least it had new Tines. I had a grocerey list of misc. parts to get so I picked it up while I was there. Last time I was over at Spalding his wasn't much more then what I gave for mine but the quality put mine to shame. I never would of figured :ashamed:

2000BD is a nice model, a good choice. I hope the roll of dice on quality comes up in your favor.

Tillers: Just look for the simple stuff. They are near indestructible. But get an exchange warranty in case the internal gears/chain are torn up. (Not likely, but maybe nobody inspected it).

Be sure the tiller includes its driveshaft.

And be sure to get the special top link that the tiller requires. This is a rigid 'bridge' that clips on the back of the tractor and goes halfway back, then a short (8-10 inches) upper link that goes the rest of the way back. You can't use a regular upper link because with that, lifting the tiller pushes it right into the tires. And don't accept a tiller with a new set of lower pins welded on farther forward, which was sometimes an owner's attempt to fix this lift problem. That 'fix' would need a new longer (expensive) driveshaft.

Be sure it has a full set of tines. The original tines are great. Replacements are expensive and can be poor to fair quality.

Drain the tiller and replace with fresh fluid (90 wt gear oil) no matter what they tell you. These were run half-submerged for 20 years then sat in a scrap pile for another 10 accumulating condensation inside. There's sure to be some water mixed in the oil.

Plan to inspect and repack the lower off-side bearing (same as packing a wheel bearing). A few of us have found water in there.

Enjoy!

Thanks California that would have taken me all night to go through. I do have a pic for the top link. Went Through the Wrong Dr. shaft. I'll do Survey1 a favor and show him what the correct one looks like for a YM2000 which the Rs1400 was Factory for it. I'll see if I can find my pic. of what it's not supposed to look like also:mad:

Its difficult to find a used name brand with the specs I'd like. I enjoy simplistic gear transmission and no power steering versus complicated and expensive potential repairs. I was looking into a JD 850 not too long ago and ended up at about the same price as a recon Yanmar. I know its the same animal but a recon yanmar has at least a short warranty. I find the warranty useful just to prevent a near-term catastrophic failure becoming a total loss of investment. If that makes sense.

You can get an 80's JD without loader for under 4K in that size. You can get a koti or manihandra, both good secondary market tractors you can get with a oader in the mid 20hp range with far less than 500 hours on them for 6-10k

If you buy it, run it a lot that first month to make sure all the bugs get worked out. I put 40-60 hours or so on mine that warrenty period. I needed a new voltage regulator, replacement of the valve on the 3pt as it was bypassing and causing the fluid to overheat and therfore not lift when warm, when cold it operated normal. They just swapped the whole 3pt assembly with another tractor that was in the shop to avod trouble shootig time for me. This one is in good shape, holds in place and will only very slow leak down when tractor is shut down and implement left in air, the old would drop like a sack of rocks when the tractor was turned off. I had to tighten a injector line that was loose and slobbering deisel. Then the crack on top of the radiator, that wen hot would mist out fluid, not run hot just spray everything, took it off ran it to them next time i was around and got another, it leaked where the guy who pulled it out cracked the bypass tube and tried to braze it up, he was no good so it leaked, i called and he pulled another out of a tractor it leaked at the bottom of the radiator somewhere unseen. I called and he was frustrated remember this was 3 radiators, one he put the hole in 2 came from the supplier with the tiny leaks, so he gave me a new out of the box radiator. Was a close fit but not exact i think i had to bend the shroud in a few spots to get it to fit, one of those moding aftermarket parts. One year later though no leaks.

No major problems but just a hassel. And even if i had to pay for all this out of pocket your looking at $60 i think for a used valve from hoye. $250-300ish for a radiator online, and $25ish for the regulator. Knock on wood.

Bought her today!!!! YM2000BD w/FEL. Bought a new trailer as well from a different place. I've been running all over town this afternoon just to get this done. I'm exhausted. I'm glad the dealer stayed late by 2 hours past closing to finish the deal so I'll be able to make a run to the barn tomorrow after work and tinker with my new machine. So far I've enjoyed my buying experience. I'll give more details after I get some sleep....I think 4:30a.m. is gonna come quick. And Thanks to all that contributed advice toward my buying experience.

Congratulations on your purchase! Make sure to post pictures, and tell us how it performs for you. I wish I had a 4 wheel drive; in this area they are extremely rare. Did you end up with a tiller or other implements? I hope you enjoy your new machine.
