I think its fixed.

I want to say a Special thanks to Danny Parker with Parker Equipment Company (www.peq.com), Inspector507, and normde2001 for aiding in getting my problem solved. THANK YA'LL.

I got the seal from my dealer. He sent it to me at no charge because the tractor has a 30 day parts warranty. He didn't give me any hassle over it, either. UPS delivered the seal yesterday (2-16-07). It was here sooner than what I thought it would be. That was the easiest seal I have ever changed. The old one popped right out, with the persuasion of a small flathead screwdriver, and the new one went right in, using a same diameter socket as the outside diameter of the new seal. I put some "never seize" on the inner and outer diameter of the seal (to help out the installation process) before I put it in.

I did notice something with the old seal out (and before I put the new one in) that oil came out when I manually pushed the control valve in. I don't know for sure (?) but their may be another seal or something else "farther back" inside the control valve assembly that may need replacing (?) Hopefully the seal that I replaced took care of the problem though. But should oil be coming out BEHIND (up inside the housing) the oil seal when the control valve is pressed in?

Thanks,

Travis

NOPE. ITS NOT FIXED. Its still leaking. There must be some other seal or something behind the oil seal (up inside the housing) that I replaced.

I bought a Parts Manual from Hoye the other day. It shows there might be some sort of "copper packing sealing washer" inside there somewhere(?). Maybe(?) that needs replacing(?).

I think that my most concern is not knowing where to start taking the thing apart TO get it fixed.

Please help. Spring is just around the corner and I need to get this leak stopped.

The copper washer seals between the push rod holder & the valve body. There are not internal seals, just a close machine fit. The valve body is probably warn to a point where it needs replacing. I can supply you with an OEM or aftermarket one.

I have got to ask this question. Its been on my mind.

Why would the hydraulic control valve body need replacing with only 853 hours on the meter?

If thats what it needs, then i'll have to get it.

Can't comment on whether the part needs replacing or not as I haven't seen it.

But keep in mind that the hour meter is probably like most of the other yanmars and is a 3 digit hour meter. That 800 number could just as easily be 1800, 2800 or more. Probably not but possible. I'm not sure when the 2500 was made but it's probably at least 20 years old. Good luck.

I believe the seal is really only designed to wipe the shaft clean before it enters the valve body. It does not hold the oil in. A leak around that seal is usually only a symptom of an internal problem. Like Len says, they are very rarely repairable as the housing is normally worn down. The new (and used) valves are readily available now. Just ask your dealer buy you a new one and you will be ready for spring. :)

I'd assume it is warn ,because the three point was raised & lowered a lot. I've sold quite a few of them, so it is a common problem.

Ok, I called the dealer today. I have to bring the tractor back to him. They're gonna fix it free of charge (and a labor warranty didn't even come with it). I can't ask for anything better. He told me before I bought the tractor that "We're not out to get anybody", and I do believe him after this. Thats the way every dealership should be.

So as it stands now, Manning Enterprises in Franklinton, LA does stand behind their tractors and Services what they sell. I'm satisfied.

TO lens12,

If they wasn't gonna warranty it. I would have bought the new valve body from you. Thanks a lot.

Thanks to all,

Here it goes again.

Brought tractor in. They took used valve body off of another YM2500, which I agreed to. It stopped leaking fluid. I asked dealer if we should "hook-up" an implement to see if it will leak. He said no. "If its gonna leak, its gonna leak now". I said ok and headed 90 miles back home.

Got home and hooked up my light duty King Kutter rear blade to work the driveway. Everything was going good. Killed tractor with implement still in the fully raised position. What do I see? IMPLEMENT SLOWLY DROPS ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND!! I got furious. It never did this with the Leaking valve body!

I called the dealer right then. I was firm, but nice. I told him that I was getting aggravated with all this, but did appreciate them working with me on the matter. Mechanic said to bring it back next Saturday that its gonna get a brand new valve body on it. He was really nice. It seems that he knows where i'm coming from. The tractor OR new Sitrex finish mower hasn't been right since the first day I had it.

I just wanna say that they Are trying to work with me. They would have installed a new valve body on it the first time, but didn't have any (even though they had a week to get it) in stock. I'm just tired of the drive up there and the fuel that it takes to make the trip.

Before I bought it, I didn't think that I would have to worry about the tractor after seeing the "Serviced By (*name*) at Fredricks Equipment" decal on the air filter housing, even though thats not who I BOUGHT it from, but its where it CAME (re-conditioning process) from.

I'm gonna take my Bush Hog Squealer (my heaviest implement) cutter up there with me next Saturday. I'm gonna drive the tractor around the parking lot with it and see if everything "holds up" when its fixed.
I also notice/want to mention that as the tractor gets hot, the hydraulics make a "squealing" noise. I've checked the oil though and its at the full mark every time.

I think/hope everything will eventually get worked out/fixed. The tractor is strong and starts EXCELLENT! But I gotta say, Times like these is where I miss my Mahindra, Dearly.

I sure hope this grass season isn't gonna be troublesome because it ain't lookin' too good fer me right now!
