Oil & Fuel YM2500 Pushing Coolant Out the Radiator

My local repair shop, that’s working on the tractor now, is top-notch. The man knows his stuff. He retired as a heavy equipment mechanic and opened up his own shop at his house. His shop is well-organized and clean. I just hope it can be fixed and the engine block is not bad again.

I'd be thanking the stars that you have such a great mechanic nearby. Really.

If it is indeed a cracked block, cracked blocks aren't the end of the world, but since this is not an uncommon block, replacement is probably easier than repair, and preferable in my opinion.

I'm starting to suspect that the copper got slathered in there when the person doing the rebuild noticed that block/head surfaces weren't mating well, rather than looking for the cause. Yanmar diesels have a really well deserved reputation for good reasons, and a head/block not mating well should have been a red flag. (JMO).

If it is any consolation, I bought a tractor new that promptly blew a wheel motor drive seal at about 7 hours and another at 25 hours. The service folks said that they had never seen it before, and the 25 hour replacement was my "blown" 7 hour motor rebuilt and sent back. Knock on wood, it has been fine for another 1,500 hour since. No complaints from me, though at 25 hours I was wondering about my purchase.

All the best,

Peter

Carey,

Yes, Fredricks added the copper when they installed the new cylinder head on the replacement engine block at their service center.
Copper coat head gasket spray is used a lot where one of your surfaces has not been resurfaced. I have used it several times myself with no problems.

A brand new loaded cylinder head was installed, but I’m not sure how “true” it mated up with the engine block.
Used head bolts were installed also. New ones are not available. Not sure if the head bolts were installed correctly.
There are many uncertainties.
I been praying that my mechanic gives me and Fredricks good news and can get it all figured out.
This whole ordeal has put me on edge.

Being over stressed from this tractor is an understatement. Especially when other things are going on. Back in May, my father had a very large and very rare cancerous tumor removed from his lower stomach. It’s called a “Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma.” It was the size of a flat basketball.
I been taking him and my mother both back and forth to doctors’ appointments.

Looks like a lot more copper than spray in that damaged head and Block. Rolled it on. It's oozing out and that's a legit opinion from the looks in the pics.. Myself Clean block and head. I've seen Several repairs that don't work or last long when you see it used. No need for it if the surfaces are clean with the correct gasket and new head bolts..

@Travis_R Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope that it turns out to be fixed by the surgery, and that he has a speedy and full recovery.

All the best,

Peter

Yes, the copper is definitely oozing out between the head and the block.

To my knowledge, new head bolts are not available.

Thank You, Peter.
His recovery has been challenging, to say the least. A very slow process. He got a stint removed yesterday from one of his kidneys and is peeing blood clots.

I'm showing Fredricks YM1500,2500,2610. HBN-4300 Nut, Head bolt and
HBW-3338 Washer only those 3 models also. You can see how unusual they are.

I wonder if there are any on the Deere parts sites for the 3T80.

Travis, did you save the old bolts. I recall you were going to measure them for length and thread diameter awhile ago.

The reasoning was, you can nearly order these off McMaster-Carr as NEW.

124450-01230 1x
Length: 156 mm
Outer Diameter: 20 mm
Possible M20 thread ?

This might work as a new replacement. Shy of 3mm (1/8-inch) each end.

124450-01210 7x
Length: 138.50 mm
Outer Diameter: 20 mm
Possible M20 thread ?
