So, what was the culprit?

My 1602D fuel filter was 1/2 full of mud when I got it, ran that way for a whole season! Next season I started out right by changing all the fluids, could not believe what I found in there! The air filter cannister was also 1/2 full of very fine silt, looked like neither had seen any attention in 20 years or so!

Whew! Long weekend so far, and it's only half over! Nothing like looking forward to Monday...so you can rest at work:).

Anyway, so far it appears the fuel filter was the problem. The interior was a bit cloudy (the bowl plastic IS 22 years old or so), and it was 1/2 full of something other than fuel. The filter was pretty well clogged, and after replacing it ran fine...so I'll take that as my answer:).

In response to some of the other suggestions, all fluid levels were perfect (i LOVE that about this old yanmar...doesn't burn a drop, doesn't leak a drop), and the screen in front of the rad (that does a GREAT job of keeping the rad fins clean, as it's a much finer mesh) was virtually spotless (there really hasn't been much in the way of airborn particles since I cleaned it after brush hogging in the fall....).

Thanks again for all your help!
Adam

Take my advice and order a new fuel bowl, Change it out next time u do the filter. The orig bowls actually shrink in time. U will save head ache later if u change it out.....Sometimes u have to break open the fuel lines by the injector pump to bleed the system past the bleeder screws....
