I have a ym180d and I would like to get a york rake. How big of a rake can I successfully pull with an 18 hp tractor? Does the 1 ft per hp rule apply with a rake?

I have a ym2002d and a 6' landscape rake. Really haven't found that much use for it but what little I have used it I believe my 24hp and 4 wheel drive is plenty sufficient for the 6 footer. No way I could use a 6' blade! Just based on my limited on hands experience i would think a 5 footer would be right for you. (This is just a joke) ...so you can handle an 18 foot rake???

It depends on how aggressively you plan to use it... smoothing out gravel and soil or trying to rip roots out of the soil??? You can remove tines, I removed every other one because I did not need them (smoothing soil out) but if you need to pick up every stick... more tines help.

I made a 7 footer... I liked but could not spin it around (would hit the ground) so I took tines off of one side until I could.

Wide is good but I have "bumped" into things..

Can you rent one? or try it before you buy it??

Ha Ha ya I meant 1ft per 4hp. While my Yanmar can handle it with 18ft of rake where would I turn around It sounds like 5' might be something I should keep an eye out for.

If I could find a great deal on a six footer, I would buy it... worst case, you cut the ends off. It doesn't take much HP to drag a rake for smoothing (short toplink)... but if you set it too aggressively to dig in (long toplink)... it may stop or stall the tractor if it grabs or digs in.
