You don't have a high speed Internet connection??

Then they aren't the right renters. No one in their right mind would move into a house without a high speed Internet link. Tons of professionals would love to work from a home located in a lovely rural setting, and that's not gonna happen without the Comcast link. Besides, aren't you stuck with a 2 year contract?

Yes and yes...

Property Management already had it leased and is not responding...

I had a choice to pay for the install or take a multi year commitment which I opted for.

Not to get too far off... the rental application is corporate rental with double deposit... thing is I won't let the residential property become a work camp and staging area for heavy equipment... plus on septic and I can imagine 5 steel erectors coming home everyday and running lots of wash...

It happens. First home we owned was a duplex that I cleaned up to FHA specs to get a 3% down FHA loan. New paint in and out and I sanded the hardwood floors.

First rental applicant was ... a hot tar & gravel roofer. I thought about what coming home with tar & gravel on his shoes would do to my pristine varnished hardwood floors ... No way! The guy seemed decent and solvent but that was not acceptable.

Rented instead to a single girl who worked in the state legislature. We became friends and she took us along to a lot of lobbyist-paid parties, often had free tickets to events, etc. Fun times. (And the rent paid for everything for both sides, zero housing expense for us, so that was the beginning of socking away substantial savings).

Ok I'm way off-topic since that was before internet. :D

Back to discussing high speed internet or the absence thereof.

I have Exede, 15 gig per month at about $89.00. They now offer the Freedom Package in our area, 150 gig for $99.00. I have signed up, but not yet installed. Satellite is our only option to dial up, will let you know how it goes.

A friend of mine has DSL from Windstream, and it is barely faster than dialup. He tested it a few days ago and it was .3meg down and .1meg up. Yes those are decimal points in front of the numerals. The local power company is running fiber down the road and offered him 1000 meg(1Gig) up and down for $75 monthly.
He jumped on that and is supposed to have service in about 2 weeks. Wow, what would a residence do with 1gig? I have 25meg down and 5 meg up here at my house and that seems to meet all my needs.

I've been there. My prior home had DSL which was plenty fast. We then moved to our farm and had no options except satellite. We used Dish Net for a couple years but it was slow. We then got a 30 GB phone plan from ATT and tried that. We burned through the 30GB and paid about $100 extra a month for the overage. In addition, it was pretty slow, though faster than satellite. Finally, we got wireless broadband (line of sight) from Highspeed Link, a local company. We started at 2 GB download but quickly upgraded to 5 GB for $95 a month. We had several months of drastic speed reduction in the evening. I kept complaining and posting on FB and Speedtest.net. They finally "changed us to another cell on the tower" and we finally have 5 GB. It is fast enough but still slower than the DSL we had 7 years ago. Also much more expensive. It is an essential for us so cost is not a factor.

I am stuck with satellite also, advertsed fast but actually not, latency is also a factor. It goes out frequently. Tech support is India. I wouldn't give up the rural life in exchange. I was born without I can live without too. Att says they want to do away with landlines here in our state. They better get busy on those cell towers, we don't have that either.

Kinda' strange for us old folk to realize that there's a whole generation that has never known what it's like NOT have this Internet thing-- not to mention broadband. Makes one wonder what future generations will be saying about us primitives these days.

None here. AT&T actually abandoned the land line coming to my area. Got tore up by the county road graders so much that the few people that live out here switched to cell only. Even when it worked, all that was available was dial-up. Nearest DSL was about 12 miles away.

I was promised 5meg. As the tech crawled out of the truck he said I would be lucky to get 1meg. As it was he tuned up every box between me and twon and I wound up with about 360k on a good day. Still far, far better than dial-up. Neighbor 1/4 mile down the line was told that I was the last one they could serve, she was too far from twon.
