Jim, we use to ride in the back of a pickup truck around the farm and I would shoot rabbits left and right at night, never missed... sadly my partner in crime is no longer with us... died at 52!

In 1956 & 57, I used to do that riding on the fender of a 1946 Chevrolet and later a 1948 Oldsmobile. But then in 1958, I got a 1956 Mercury convertible and a buddy had a 1952 Pontiac convertible; one would drive and the shooter would stand up in front of the passenger seat.:D And we ate the rabbits we shot, although if you shot one too close to you with the 12 gauge, there wasn't much left fit to eat.:D

That reminds me of when some buddies went with my brother and me to the dry lake bed of Lake Dallas just east of Denton on Hwy. 380 (It was SH 24 in those days.). That was before Lake Ray Roberts was even in the planning stage and the lake was always dry unless we had springtime floods. Anyhow, there were five of us with shotguns. We'd shake brush piles to see if we could scare out rabbits. This one unfortunate rabbit ran out of a brush pile in perfect placement for all the shooters. Four shotgun rounds hit that poor bunny all at once and skinned him on the spot. There was nothing left but hamburger and a wad of fur about three feet away.:D

After that, we decided the first person to "call the shot" would shoot and the rest of us would watch. That actually worked out well for that day.:)

My brother, in his twisted way, started an annal tradition of going out for a rabbit hunt on Easter Morning. We'd to to our local duck hunting area and walk along until we kicked up a rabbit. Usually it was a jack rabbit, but sometimes a cottontail would take off. We'd shoot a few and then call it a day. Our Easter Bunny hunt was always something we'd look forward to.
