I recall this same discussion several years ago; one of the group had been in the service in Alaska. He said it got so cold where he was, that antifreeze cans left outdoors would freeze up and burst. If there was a medal for the biggest BSer, he would have gotten it.

Working around Flagstaff and Williams Ariz. Had a new '61 Dodge truck. Went out around day light and engine sluggish to turn over so raised hood. top of Radiator was swelled and seeping out was a slush of antifreeze . took off the cap and could stick finger into the slush instead liquid.

also the city water system froze took several days to clear.
At Flagstaff went into a Penny's store purchased new pair of insulated work boots. stepping onto side walk felt the sole of the boots crack and returned to store traded for different brand.
returning home the house was so cold moved the children into living room/kitchen area. we all lived with in touch of the gas heater.
cattle froze standing in the open unprotected by the wind.
We worked with so many layers of clothing by time getting everything unbuttoned. better be inside a enclosed area. or endanger the exposed area (sticking tongue to metal pipe for example) consider the whole tail end frozen to commode seat.
