I ran into the same thing. I had what was a notarized photocopy of the original that I'd gotten in the early 70s. Nope, no go. Had to get a new one. Most of the same information (not everything from the old was on the new), but printed on a different form with "security" features.When I went to get my real ID drivers license with the star they would not accept my original notarized birth certificate, said it had to come from the state Bureau of Vital Statistics.
What was most annoying was I went to my hometown (3 hr away) to get this only to find out I could have gotten a copy from any town clerk in the state...it was all in a database.
