Re: Look out Pa.

I've been spending too much time on my tractor. This is the first I have seen this post, and a lot of others.

We just took a trip from Central NY to Alabama, and found the worst roads to be in North Carolina. We can tell by how loud the dishes clatter in the back of the motorhome. In PA, a lot of US 15 is new, as is 322 into Harrisburg. I-180 and 147 from Williamsport was mostly good (we stayed off I-80) and I-81 has been or is getting fixed where it was rough. US 11-15 along the Susquehanna is finally done and beautiful.

I-77 in NC was really bad, especially around Statesville and parts of Charlotte. We came back I-85 through Greensboro and some of that was pretty bad. So my vote goes to NC.

Now as far as twisty, curvy, no passing for miles and miles, PA takes the cake hands down!

I like my scrapple crispy on the outside, mushy inside, and my eggs-over-easy right on top of the scrapple all mixed up. Eddie's Restaurant on US 15 just outside Mansfield, PA serves it, and we always stop there for breakfast on the way south. We can and do buy Jones Philadelphia Scrapple in Cortland.

Re: Look out Pa.

The closer you get to Harrisburg, the capitol, the better the roads get. I have to admit though, most of the major roadways in PA have definitely improved over the last 10 years.

Re: Look out Pa.

Yep, you're right. There's a lot of construction around the capital city - northeast of town on I83, 78 and 81, southwest on US 15, and I don't know what all else. The way we come through the area - US 11/15, US 322 from the north - is finally completed. I have regularly travelled that way since 1952, and it is really nice driving now.

I looked through this post mostly because my wife is from PA and we have spent a lot of time there - enough to be familiar with most of the food, language and customs mentioned earlier in this post.

Re: Look out Pa.

Well, if you're lookin for the diner that used to be on top of the mountain before Steam Valley on 15, it's been put on a truck and moved to the Strong Museum in Rochester NY.
Pennsylvania can't hold a candle to the roads in Western NY, we are the wheel alignment capitol of the world.
NY DOT proudly claims it's because we have the maximum number of freeze/thaw cycles of anyplace on earth. The DOT clown who said that really got pissed when I asked if those cycles recognized the border on I 90 at Erie cause the Pa Turnpike had less potholes from there to Ohio than the NY Thruway had between 2 exits.
We also have higher taxes, and charge to drive on out Thruway. We need the $$$ cause the Thruway Authority also owns state prisons. We have good government, good at screwin taxpayers!
