Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

Exactly!

But the whole hate crimes BS is not about hate crimes to begin with. It is an attempt to shut up anyone that doesn't like deviant lifestyles. It is about the attempt normalize deviants into the mainstream of society.

Hate crimes has already perverted itself /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif into hate speech and that is no accident. The idea is just shut up about it so that we can have same sex marriages, "domestic partner" benefits (or else be found guilty of discrimination), adoption legal for NAMBLA members...... whatever.

Joseph Stalin has been credited (rightly or wrongly) with the statement, "He who controls the language controls the world". William Safire has been credited with, "He who controls the language controls history".

The point is controlling the language is essential to controlling people, government, the country, etc.

You cannot control a political agenda unless you control the language. That is why the Democrats were doing focus group surveying about 10 days ago to see what the talking points were going to be. The result was (drum roll please) "Kitchen table issues" !!! Although that doesn't really have anything to do with hate speech it does have to do with language and how to manipulate people with it ..... and that is all that hate crimes and hate speech is about.

The pursuers of hate crimes legislation don't give a rat's behind about about gays or jews or whatever, they care about political power .... they just found a convenient vehicle to ride to that power. The problem is the sheeple fall for it. There seems to be an unending supply of people that believe this stuff and I am always stunned by it. The idiocy in it is that I am still stunned /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

that kind of stuff hasn't changed, apparently. I saw a story last week of another similar case ... 2 sexuality-challenged fellas beat a drifter to death. It wasn't news because the drifter was "straight" so it only ran in the back section of one local paper (less liberal than the others) .... ignored in all the other papers and on the electronic media.

I actually saw a story this weekend about junior Gore .... but it was way in the back, while the Bush kids somehow make front page news. Now me, I consider DUI much more serious than underage drinking (since driving drunk and driving off bridges and drowning passengers is a bad thing) ... but that could be my anti-liberal bias showing. (I am not condoning the underage drinking ... they should all be taken out and lashed a-la Singapore!)

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

Personally, I don't care whom a newspapers "endorses". What I care about ... in deciding whether a newspaper is liberal or not .... is the tone of their artcles. I subscribe to two local papers .... one is noticably liberal and the other is noticably conservative ... although they try to "balance" by having an overly-liberal editor who wastes editorial space once a week.
I always enjoy my game of checking to see how many times "conservative" - usually with a qualifier such as far-right - appears in articles ... while noting that liberal is almost never used. The liberal rag considers itself middle-of-the-road .... which is quite hilarious ... unless you consider pro-tax, pro-government control, pro-welfare to be middle of the road.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

if you truly /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif believe that ... you might want to read Ann Coulter and / or Brent Bozell once in a while and then use Lexus/Nexus to check their validity.
Or do you just prefer "your" reality better than truth?

As I mentioned in another post, I subscribe to 2 newspapers. I find it particularly telling as to a bias when you read the same article in both newspapers ... from a Reuters or other outside source .... and the liberal rag carries half the article while the conservative carries the whole thing (although I have seen a few cases where the conservative rag carries less information than the other). The missing part of the article (when abreviated in the liberal rag) usually is relevant to a complete understanding of a story. You arrive at a completely different viewpoint with miising data ... such as, say, that John Lindh Walker's dad is gay, or who appointed a certain federal judge and how many decisions were overturned on appeal, and the like.
You CAN display a bias covertly (by withholding information detrminetal to your cuse) rather than overtly!

Oh ... and as for Buchanan's credibility .... well, I guess it depends on what axe you have to grind. He has less than zero credibility with me.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

Wingnut;

The only reason I mentioned newspaper endorsements was because "Boone" brought it up. I was meerly making the point that if newspaper endorsements are the measuring stick then, by a geographical standard (as newspapers represent geographical areas) then Bush should have had 75% or more of the newspaper endorsements ..... but he didn't because the media is biased.

When I refer to the media being biased, I generally mean the national media. If anyone thinks that the national media is neutral has some serious discernment issues! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

All in all I don't give a rat's axx about newspaper endorsements .... newspapers are becoming like the railroads anyway.

I appreciate your perspective, though!

Wingnut,
What are you referring to with this paragragh?

While reading two different local papers did you come across a labor section in either paper?

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

Using your Shepard and Dirkhising case as an example then, I can extrapolate that the national media is also bias against blacks and poor children.

Elizabeth Smart a white girl abducted in Colorado, reported nightly on the national news. Alexis Patterson a black girl is abducted in Milwaukee and receives only local media coverage. Until charges are made bias then national media enters the picture exactly as they did for Dirkhising.

=======================================
This is part of Ann Coulter's bio from her internet site. Hardly looks like someone that has no exposure of her thoughts to the people of the nation. Note they have described her column as popular and syndicated. How can this be in a world where the liberals are chocking off the media access of the conservatives? I have to git working. Have a good day Wingnut.

Coulter is the legal correspondent for Human Events and writes a popular syndicated column for Universal Press Syndicate. She is a frequent guest on many TV shows, including Politically Incorrect, Larry King Live, Hannity and Colmes, The O'Reilly Factor, American Morning With Paula Zahn,
Crossfire, ABC’s “This Week,” Good Morning America, the Leeza Show, and has been profiled in TV Guide, National Journal, Harper’s Bazaar, and George Magazine. She was named one of the top 100 Public Intellectuals by federal judge Richard Posner in 2001

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

I'm referring to their usual artcles containing reports of the intense liberal bias of the "mainstream" media.
I know of no newspaper that carries either columnist .... were it not fo rthe internet, I would not have access to either of these people.
You claim there is no media bias (I cannot fathom how anyone can watch any of the networks talking heads ... especially that communist s.o.b. masquerading as a Canadian - Peter Jennings (how does ABC justify having this anti-American nutcase as their chief talking head?)) ... znd I am offering these 2 as a refute of your hypothesis. I am suggesting you read some of their works and then check the source material they quote to see whether, in fact, there are instances of a vast left-wing media conspiracy.
Or, you can continue to believe what you believe /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

labour section in the paper? I've never found a section so matrked ... but the liberal rag (Bay City Times, if you want to check MY bias)requently has labor/union articles in the "Business" section. The paper is strongly pro-union ... as is the community that it is published in. It even supported the incredible deal wherein any company can bid for work on the new library construction program .... but any company winning contracts MUST use union labor.

Re: You might be a liberal if (chapter V)

I guess that I didn't know that the Dirkhising case made national news. The way I heard about it was through a letter to the Editor in a Montana newspaper asking them why they didn't give any time to the case; while they yapped incessantly about the Shepard case! I know the Shepard case made the Nat'l news ; it was in Newsweek, Time, US News NBC , CBS , ABC; and whatever else could yap about it!
