Mostly though, I believe it's just something different than the way it was always done so it has to be better.

I think you are onto something there. :)

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic.

Oil changes on most type of engines I'm familiar with is an assumption of something that has to be done. You buy a car, oil change on a regular basis is a given IMO.

As noted, I'm in my 50's, and other than not abusing a washing machine, never really had to "maintain" one on a regular basis at all. You buy a washer, I'm sorry, requiring maintence every two months per the manufacturer is new to me.

Best get signed up on washingmachine.net ! I've cleaned our doohickey 3 times in 15 years. The bottom panel has to be unbolted to do it. Usually a nail or coin or something holding on to crap. Though we use vinegar for the fabric softener, so as it has been stated- maybe that does keep the works clean.

So what is the ADVANTAGE to the front loaders,
I think it's less water used....or you get your floor washed at the same time :). I know quite a few people with front loads that hate the day they bought them....actually anyone I know that has one hates that day.
Fella I work with his started shaking when it was washing, ended up it needed new shocks and springs, go figure....front end must need alignment too LOL. The die cast/white metal frame that they fastened to was rotted to the point it may last a year, less than two years old..........Mike

When we bought a front loader washer growing up (8 kids at home on city water/sewer), the difference in the water bill paid for the front washer in under 2 years.

Yeah I wouldn’t want a machine with that kinda service.

I bought a front load maytag Neptune washer and dryer (stackable) off CL over 5 years ago. Only issue I had was the dryer drum belt tensioner bolt came loose. I had to dismantle it, tighten a screw and put it all back together. I cleaned out the coil section, lubed rollers etc while I was in there.

The washer door gets left open after each use to dry out so it doesn’t get stinky, I have cleaned it a few times. Other than that it just works. Lol

As per HVAC equipment, I’m an HVAC guy. In 5 years I replaced my Tstat and replace filter usually twice a year but ends up being once a year at times. 4in media filter. Occasionally I’ll clean the condensing coil in the spring.

HVAC guys don’t maintenance their own equipment too much because when it breaks, it’s not a big deal lol.

Well, found out what the issue was.

To Samsungs credit, we will be picking up a new washer hopefully by the end of next week.

I was surprised to learn looking at the machine that it was built (assembled) in the United States.

Dang!
I was wondering how water got out of the washer & onto the floor.
That'll do it!

When did they start making plastic tubs?
Think it was damaged when built, shipped, installed? Or a large out of balance load, or a missing, failed, or wrong size spring that let an out of balance load crack it? Do washers have an "out of balance" switch that can fail?
You did say it made some weird out of balance noises before the water showed up on the floor right?
I'm thinking something went wrong somewhere else and this was the result. ???

What does the bolt & piece that that broke off bolt to? A top collar of the tub that's also suppose to move?

The washing machine was delivered first week in October of last year.

Unit failed at 3 months almost to the day. 2 teens (who do their own laundry) along with my wife and I and my father. The teens also did their laundry in the older machine as well. Machine sees use weekley needless to say.

Special screws are set in place in the machine for when it leaves the factory for moving that are removed when installed, to keep the "tub from moving.

I only took a quick pic because the service technician was running late and I know what it's like to have a homeowner looking over your shoulder, and I wanted something for documentation on my end if they were not going to replace the machine. First year warranty, I'm not going to touch it unless I'm the one who screwed it up.

In complete honesty, I've never had to take a washing machine or dryer apart because I've never had a problem with one in the past. I'm guessing that's going to change. Honestly the plastic tub surprised me as well. You got to figure manufacturers know what they're doing, but then I think of a HVAC manufacturer I'm intimately familiar with, and sad to say, the answer is sometimes manufacturers don't know what they're doing when they build their products LOL

Only commercial washer I saw online was pushing 6k. That is OUT of the question LOL

I worked in appliance stores in my early days. Never heard of routing main't on a washing machine.. Must be something new. The wife and I had an old maytag that was over 40 years old. Started to squeal real bad after spindown. Gave it to a friend. he rebuilt the brake assembly. It is still working. Dang thing is probably now well over 50 years old.. They don't make em like that any more I guess. I don't remember putting a dime in it and we bought it used. Just hook it up and make sure the hoses don't leak and wash clothes in it. I think it was an A107 model. pretty simple. Mechanical timer etc.

We just replaced our Maytag A606 washer that we bought used 28 years ago, so it could be pushing 50,
Only replaced the timer switch in all that time .
I replaced the belts recently [for maybe the second time], but for some reason which I have not diagnosed, it would not run properlyt, so I put the old old belts back on and continued to run it.
We sold it and an old whirlpool 120volt apt size dryer to a family with small children and I bet it will keep running for them.
The jury is out on the new machine still breaking it in.

We just bought a new washer and wanted it simple and direct drive. So far, so good. When my wife complained about the problems with newer washers in general, he explained they were part of bureaucrats in Washington mandating higher standards for energy use and raw materials use. Not sure if true or not but suspect true.

Same with furnace and A/C. The repair guy tells me that gov't mandates are shortening life expectancy of the units and creating all sorts of maintenance mischief.
