The purported superiority of the front loader of lower water usage is not a concern of mine.

The newer top loaders are way better than the old style top loaders of years ago when it comes to water usage. They are not at the front loader efficiency but close enough in my book.

Plus no mold buildup at the door seal on top load that needs to be dealt with.

I was leaning toward a front load because with no agitator they are a lot easier on my wool clothes... after reading the comments here I think that I will stick with that which I'm familiar.

My LG top loader doesn't have an agitator either. And it works great.

An agitator was an option on several of the top loaders that we looked at, we ended up getting one with an agitator because we liked it better. Hopefully it holds up well.

To keep it simple, Speed Queen. Top load washer, front load dryer. Yes, not the most efficient nor cheapest - bottom line IMHO, they just work.
