I've only seen snow like that once. A few years ago, we had record snowfall in the mountion passes. I made a trip to Eastern Washington with my kids and stopped on the way back at Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 so that the kids could play in the snow at the ski resort. I made a wrong turn and ended up in the area where the condos are. The snow was 1/2 way up the second story of the condos. The road we were on was cleared about 15 feet wide and was cleared into the garages - all vertical walls. Some of the houses had decks which you could see the end of in the cleared area to the garage and the snow was about one foot higher than the railing. I wish I'd had a camera and could have taken pictures. It was really weird to be in a man made snow canyon like that.

That same year the news showed them shoveling ten feet of snow off the roof of the lodge at the ski resort so it wouldn't collapse.

Some bigger snowblowers have that options to bypass the chute. I think it has less drag and throws snow further. I have seen them but have not used one. I think that picture is the real thing.

I drove rental cars from Aspen to Denver elevations over 7K" thirty years ago in the winter. Mountain roads were Packed and plowed. Blowing the snow with outrageous snow banks would be self defeating. Packed snow and tire studs did the trick.

Hey Cyril, On December 10, 2002 (I'll always remember that day) I bought a 41 Chevy from a guy in Seattle and was driving home back East when a huge snow storm hit and I was right in the middle of Snoqualmie Pass. There were cars and trucks skidded off the hiway everywhere. Being a old car with skinny tires (6.00-16), vacuum wipers, and basically no defroster, I white knuckled it to Cle Elum where I spent the night. Was one of the worst days of my life! Seriously! I really thought I was a goner! I'll never forget it! Anyway I'm still here to talk about it! Won't be going back there anytime soon! Jim

A friend sent me some photos from Fargo, ND, that must be going around on the internet. If you haven't seem them, here're two that got my attention. I won't be complaining about the snow again. Made me remember reading about guys who had to tunnel thru snow from the farm house to get out to the barn to tend the livestock.

I seem to recall these were taken in one of Canada's parks- this looks like a high elevation area and not Fargo

Thanks, Luremaker, for finding that Snopes story. I had tried, but didn't check with the right terms, I guess. Probably the Fargo business got started by a Fargo-ite who wanted to show off? I remember driving up to Northern New Hampshire in the winter of 1965 or so, and driving on packed snow with walls of snow on the sides. Sliding around was no problem, since the snow walls just bounced you back, unless you hit a spot where they'd cleaned out for a mailbox or drive.
