Added a couple of nifty Marlin 39 lever guns to my collection this past winter. One is a "mountie" and the other is a Century Ltd. both with 18" barrels and fun to shoot. Well made guns from the 70's.

I put skinner peep sights on the receviers....and have had lots of fun shooting at our range. Lots of fire power and quite accurate. Seems everyone likes these lever guns best....kinda like an old-time assult rifle. ;)

Gonna pass these on to my grandsons at some point....after they get old enough to appreciate them. Right now they just need "shooters".

I've got a 39 with a 22" or 24" barrel. I'd love to have a Mountie. I believe they're pretty rare.
These are very well made rifles and have been in production for decades. IIRC, the 39 has the longest production run of any American made rifle.

I have a Winchester 52 b sporter rimfire, very accurate. I think the dealer told me they were a limited addition. I would like to get a hmr 17 someday.

Yep your right Roy. Longest production run of any gun in history. Last winter I went after a few of these gems via the gun broker auctions. Some of these models have pretty low production runs....and are getting fairly collectable and can fetch a handsome price. I also found a nice Marlin 1894 in 357 Mag....this gun is a sweet shooter....and it quickly became the favorite plinking rifle for almost everyone that picks it up.

I've owned a variety of long-range and bolt-action super accurate rifles (including benchrest custom made pieces). But for me, these lever-action cowboy guns have become the most fun to shoot.

I have a Weatherby Mark XXII semi-auto that I have had for several years. It has the matching 4X50 scope on it. It has been responsible for the death of many squirrels over the years. Weatherby has not made this rifle in several years but they are now making a bolt action .22 with the same model number. I wouldnt mind having one of those as well. It would be fun to see how one shot against the other. Usually a bolt will out shoot a semi but in this case I would have to see it first hand.

My favorite two .22s are my '77 541S I bought used in 1980 & a new CZ Varmint picked up this summer.

Yeah, I know what you mean...neighbor of mine sold me an 1894 in .357 Magnum. This is a newer one with the crossbolt safety. It goes quite nicely with a Ruger New Vaquero (also .357 Magnum). I'm not into cowboy shooting, but these are some fun guns to shoot!
Definitely an outstanding plinker!! As is the 39...

Dang Roy! We have the same guns! I been plinking with that new Vaquero too.

On the 1894....I searched out and found an older one in real nice condition.....and then paid what I had to in order to own it. Mine is from the early 80's and without the safety. I sure like the way this little gun handles. Only 36" long.

Also a 22 LR / Mag Single Six convertable Ruger in a similar gun. My family gives these guns a workout at our range. I reload the 357 ammo which is pretty affordable.....and buy enough 22 LR to keep my grandsons happy. They are getting to be pretty fair shots....and are more knowledgeable each year about guns and how to use em correctly. I like each of these guns for their safety and handeling aspects. Good to learn with!

No single action .22's here, but I do have an old (late 60's to early 70's, I think) S&W Model 17 .22 revolver. This is one of the 6 shot guns with the counter bored cylinder. Very nice older revolver!
I tought about a Single Six...but even though the Model 17 is DA, I shoot mostly SA.

I do have a Black hawk Convertible in .45 Colt/.45 ACP.

Getting back to the rifles (1894 and 39) and that old Model 17 revolver...I paid between $200 and $250 for each of these firearms which is somewhat below the typical asking prices. These were all private sales and I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Lucked out!

My old favorite is my Mossberg Kc340. Full sized rifle, that has held up for me as well as being used by my to sons as they were growing up. No idea how many rounds have been run through the rifle, but the rifling still looks like new. Living in the country, kept this next to the back door with a brick or two of ammo next to it. The kids knew the safety rules and would "plink" at targets at the far side of the yard until they got board. Good backdrop where they were shooting. Bolt action with a 7 or 9 round clip.
