As luck would have it, played hockey with an attorney who specializes in adverse possession cases.

One thing he said was interesting: there is a certain level of trespass expected between adjoining neighbors.

I wish I heard the final chapter as well. Dang TBN preachers.

I can see that. In cities, properties are so close together, sometimes it's necessary to go on the adjoining property to maintain your own. You may have to step on the neighbor's driveway to edge or trim your lawn, or foot a ladder to paint your house for example. Out here in the country, one of my neighbors has an electric fence for animals, He want to keep grass away from it to avoid a potential for grass fires. The property next to his is a crop field that isn't mowed up to the fence. He goes on their side with his riding mower to mow/trim grass away from the electric fence wire.

If I ever move to another place and build (which I never will), I plan to set my fence 6' inside the property line so I can do that without encroaching though.

Unfortunately, then your neighbor will use that 6 feet.

^^ The plan would be to mark it with another set of T-posts only, easy to mow/trim against/around without going over. But It would be an area where the neighbor probably would never come that close to the fence line to begin with. Neighbors here can be a mile apart and own hundred of acres, some of which they rarely see.
