Sometimes more accurate as the harmonics that can affect cheaper meters directly connected to voltage are largely filtered out by the CT. Lots of cell and network sites where even the analog meters won’t read frequency and the only way is with an inductive amp clamp.

I like using this old Frankenstein type meter I built many years ago when I had a pto set. Has vibrating fingers. Also Hi and Low voltage presets/alarm. FOOLISHLY simplle and no programming sheet has to accompany it. HECK, it doesn't even require batteries. Can sit in a closet for ten years and you can drag it out and it works. The only thing it should have is a timer as it alarms whenever the water pump comes on if set too tight.

But really, I don't care if the Freq would be out 5 hz either way. I don't have a Hadron Collider and my clocks don't have to be in sinc with Denver.

I’ve never seen a reed type frequency meter with 50-60 Hz span. The dedicated 60Hz ones had 1/2Hz graduations.

Simple for the win every time. They are almost entirely unaffected by harmonics.

My clock comments were connected (only in my mind) to percieved differences in the sound of my oil burner and the microwave curiosity, sorry.

Unless he has a real shallow pump, i cant believe a 2k generator ran it. Ive seen people have issues with wells using 5k units.

I have a 6.5K unit and a well about 120 feet deep. Runs the well pump and the basics in the house just fine. I do not need to load shed when the pump kicks on. that well depth is pretty common here in the midwest over our nice aquifers. Heat is natural gas so the electric just runs the pumps on the boiler for heat. we run the fridge/freezer, sump pump and some lights.

the average well here is about 600-700 feet. thats our problem that makes whole house systems hard at times. having gas for water heater and house heat makes all the difference.

I can't believe that you don't have one amongst your collection IT !

If it's not a Hadron, what type of Collider do you have ? :cool2:

I love it when old tech beats the ___________ out of Nu Tek...... reminds me why I went to school for engineering.....

 at that depth, just the cable weight is significant !

We STILL need to find the answer for the weird Microwave Oven, Noise anomaly (sp?) while on genny.
