As a small child we would love it when the power would go out during a thunderstorm at the cabin... play cards and make s'mores by fireplace light... of course we had propane for cooking and hot water...

Grandma would tell us stories of the olden days.... good memories.

I do agree the tables would be turned if in winter or water depended on electricity.

Yes power outages as a kid were always fun. Sure was a different time as well. My fun and games didn't require electricity or even batteries.

The worst one for me was about 10 years ago outside Olympia... 10+ days without power and single digits at night... it was a ice storm that dropped trees and snapped power lines for miles...

Times like this make you glad you did put in a genset add-on panel for the well pump, lighting AND have wood and facility to burn...

I was talking to one of my neighbors today... she is 90 and lived all her life here in Thurston... said that storm was a bad one...

I dont mins an occasional blackout thats a few hours long, but ours last November was about 2 days off, half day on, 2-1/2 days off than occasional on and off for weeks. I actually pulled my old standby generator as its now over 20 years old, and installed a new generac 22kw. Im going to move the old one to my shop in a few weeks.

My company has installed 26 whole house systems since last april. I still have 5 boxed units in my shop and all have been sold except for 1.

Congratulations on finally getting your own 22kw done !

If you are talking about April '16, that is a crazy number. If you mean April 2015, that is still 2/month....

Pics of the new at-home installs are welcome anytime.

Yes, i remember that one. I think it was two weeks, we got a rebate from PSE. Couldn't get out to a main road for the first week. Thankfully we have wood heat so were able to stay warm. :)

no, i mean since april 2016. Its been absolutely nuts. At one time i had 14 crated generators in my shop. I had to park outside.
Its finally starting to slow down, but im averaging 4 bids a week now for whole house systems. A few months ago it was on average 2 bids a day 5 days a week. I finally had to put a stop to some of the bids. It was too much.
The rate im doing now is just fine. I dont want it to get crazy like 6 months ago.

We are getting ready to pull the trigger on the install of an LP fueled 22kw auto-start whole house unit, so the 7kw will be backup for the backup:)

The 22kw was needed for the capacity to handle our 5 ton heat pump & will still need load management for when that starts/runs (mainly just not having both it & the range/oven and or dryer on at the same time).

The 7kw may still get pressed into service if a longer term event occurs & we need/want to constrain LP use ...

The generator race continues..... 16kw ones were common up here, but we mostly have lower AC loads than the South.

If 22kw is the volume product in the USA now, that may also create a sweet-spot in the pricing up here (vs. 16kw).

Whole house auto-start is really nice to have.... but even if/when I get there, I will always have at least one portable generator around.
