when i built my basement in the last century (1996), i coated the concrete with 2 layers of a product called thouroughseal...i think thats what its called. a grey coat then a white coat to make sure i had 2 coats. then a 1/4" layer of Bituthene over a primer. thats a self sealing product. then installed a layer of 1-1/2" insulation board to protect membrane. I have never had any leaks.

also installed a perc pipe system.

PASSED INSPECTION TODAY and the system works, inspectors said it was best built home system they seen. I got a Deep Sea 7320 controller to run a dumb Generac auto transfer switch. 36KVA turbo charged 4 cyl perkins engine 1850 rpm diesel, hooked to 4 wire dedicated single phase 36kva MeccAlte Alternator with Digital voltage regulation, in a Aluminium level 2 sound enclosure, on board battery maintainer and alternator chargers. Based is rated at 160 MPH wind using two concrete railroad ties $30 each. See pic of Switch

Nice job, but what prey-tell are you going to run with that?

I had my 7.5KW Onan/Cummins Quiet Diesel going yesterday during an outage, powering seven buildings, heat shut off (Fires Going) and drawing under a thousand watts. Was worried about wet stacking! lol

If your world is all wonderful and everything works as normal during an outage, of what use is that if you have to start farting around at an unprepared neighbors? Just sayin. Neighbors with sump pump issues, frozen water lines and so forth. I thought the purpose of having a good generating system was to take a HOT shower, relax and watch a movie while the mayhem unfolds in the world outside. lol

The realities of living in the big city...

At work we use a number of UPS for critical equipment... only need to work for 10 seconds max which is the time it takes for the genset to take over...

It sure has saved a lot of time with the PBX, Computers, etc...

Yeah. My computers are on a UPS, which sure saves a lot of aggravation starting them up again. Now, if only I could tell the microwave that no one cares about the time and date.

The guy wanted no load shedding, I want everything to run just like on street power. Also has 5 ton AC, pool, etc. On first run he was drawing 15Kva. Barn, freezers. Right now it waits 3 minutes before it declares power down, one or two minute warming depending on coolant temp. Upon power return it waits 4 minutes, then cut back street power and 2 minute cool down. Monitors and logs street and gen power. The whole system was less than a 22Kva Generac install. This will run 30Kva continuous, 36Kva for about 15/20 minutes. It will handle lock rotors at 170% for 15 seconds.

I guess there are two trains of thought. One, business as usual, fuel isn't an issue and two, conservative emergency system, conserving fuel. The PROBLEM as yesterday is ALWAYS not knowing how long an outage will last.

Why can稚 microwaves have battery backup.....what would that add to the cost...$ 0.50

Yeah, why? Or just a setting to eliminate the clock and all those functions associated with it. Believe it or not, mine has a voice recorder. Don't know how I ever made it this far without that feature. Makes me wonder now if any VCR ever had battery backup?

We hope it will do both, for small storm damage 2 hours to 2 days it will run on the on board tank, hurricane go fill 4 to 6 55gallon drums with off road diesel, park trailer full of drums next to it, start turning things off. That Perkins engine will sip fuel when not loaded.
