I purchased a 5740C approx 1.2 years ago.
I use it mainly to bushog 20 acres of pasture as well as a the other things you use a tractor for around the farm.
It has close to 70 hrs on it and have not had any problems so far.
I really like the tractor and would not hesitate to buy another one.

We are just finishing our first year of owning a 5740C. It has been a good tractor with no major problems. Had to make a few adjustments and one of the 3pth arms was deformed(bad casting on the end, even though it worked fine) our dealer replaced the arm and made the adjustments for us. It has proven to be a powerful little workhorse, throwing snow like crazy and using the rotary mower in some very tough conditions. I even levelled 20 tandem truck loads of clay with the loader and blade as fast as the operator could load it with a track hoe and haul it. The heat and airconditioning are exceptional! I was down to my t-shirt today snowblowing while it was nearing -40 this morning. It started first piston up even though it was a bit of a slow crank over( I think we may switch to synthetic if this cold snap keeps up). The neighbor borrowed it and cut 200 acres with a 12' haybine this summer without a hiccup. My father-in-law used it to clean out another neighbors horse corral and was pushing manure above the axle. We would buy one without a question and had looked at Kubota and JD. It goes in this week to get some calcium in the tires for ballast. Just wish our dealer was a little closer, almost 200miles.

I've had it just over a year and put 150 hrs on it.

Originally bought it to move snow, we had a couple of weeks of major snow storms and as I told the dealer when I picked it up, 妬f she wants to sleep inside tonight she has to dig her way in to the garage? Since then I cut 15 acres of grass/clover, landscaping, disking, etc.

I'd buy another in a heart beat, although and don't see that happening in the near future, I expect this one to last many years.

The biggest problem I have found is I under estimate its power. I bought a 5 ft rough cut mower that was rated 25 40 hp. I can't make the engine work let alone bog it down. I have dug out rocks that don't fit in the bucket, I can't lift them but with a little thought you can get them moved.

I probably could have bought a comparable tractor for less $ (or a lot more) but what I liked about this one is that it came with everything included, no nickel and dime crap, the loader was included, the hydraulic remotes were there and generic. The dealer set it up to go to work and I've never had a problem putting it to work.

I have operated everything from bobcats to 400 hp tractors and loaders and for the money this thing works better then expected. I have put this thing thru a lot of things and find myself chuckling when it doesn't even grunt.:)

Hey, This WEJ and I have posted here a lot, both happy and not so.... but all in all I love my 1997 4340 cab tractor. After growing up with two cylinder JDs it is quite a difference. I have the FEL, and a 5' rotary cutter, a 6' back blade, a 7' snow blower, and a 14' trailer plus, all summer off to play with them, me being a school teacher. I am sure I would have been just as happy with any of the modern cab tractor from any of the other brands as well.... What sold the Montana was the financing. I got mine from a dealer 6 miles away at 0% for 60 months. That made all the difference for me.

Hello all; 2007 5740C 25 hrs purchased fall 2007, primarly to maintain 140 Acre farm with 3pt 8ft cutter, this tractor seems to handle this cutter without breaking a sweat. So far I really have liked the quality and operation of this tractor, and great support from my local dealer Dutch Acres. I easly upgraded the radio to a $79 Walmart model with MP3 and SD card input which provides a great way to load all my fav songs on a solid state memory.

I plan to carefully maintain this tractor and hope it lasts for years.

Thanks

What model Montana do you own? 2006 5740C
How many hours on your Montana? 90 hrs
What do you use it for? I use to shred 7 acres of salt grass, clear brush, and disc and sow haygrazer.
Would you consider buying Montana again? Yes.
Any other input? I priced a Kubota and JD of similar size with a FEL and no cab. The Kubota was a 50 hp tractor really nice with a 6 ft shredder and FEL for $28000, and a JD 50 hp no cab, FEL and 6 ft Shredder, and with the option to add additonal hydraulics lines, only two were standard $28000. Purchased the 2006 5740C with FEL and 6 ft Bush hog shredder for $28000. So much nicer to have a cab with A/C and a radio. It is nice to have 4 rear hydraulic remotes. I plan on pulling a 10 ft disc, and adding a 10 ft grain drill with the next month.

I have a R4344. I use it mostly for brushogging and track maintenance (my boy races motocross and we have a practice track). I just went over the 50 hr. mark and have not had too many problems with it. Good thing too since my dealer left alot to be desired. I'm real happy with the R series but like everything else, there are changes that I would make. Overall, it is a great tractor. I had my choices narrowed down to a Kubota or Montana. After doing my homework, I came home with a green one.
