Your Montana information

5740 here with 60+ hours.

Used for plowing, tree grubbing, herbicide spraying and round bale moving. Soon to be used for small square bailing and stacking.

My Dealer dropped Montana due to their price increases, "Said he could not compete with the Massey dealer down the road" and no dealer within a 100 miles, I would probably would not look at buying another Montana for that reason alone.

bout 100hrs
use it for bushhogging, box blade, rotary tiller, disking. fel used for anything its capable of. gravel, sand, dirt, lumber, ect.

extremely pleased w/ the tractor. plenty of horsepower, pleasure to use.

extremely disappointed w/ loader. capacity is measured 375-400 lbs less than rated lift. dealer checked/adjusted hydraulics. helped but still weak. i had a 1987 ford model 1910 30hp that would lift considerably more. prolly 600lbs more.

the newer curved boom loaders are built heavier, mounted better, and have larger cylinders. not sure if they have more lift but surely they have.

anyone else have any comments on the older stright loaders?

Hi guys , I have a 2007 4940 with 60 hours on it .
I agree that what Montana says it will lift with the front end loader and what it actually is capable of lifting is two different animals.
The only problem that I still have from day one is the fuel sending unit , it would get stuck , so the dealer worked on it and said it was fixed but no luck .The dealer now thinks it may have the wrong sending unit in it from factory because when it reads empty and you put in a 5 gallon jerry can of diesel it goes from completely empty to full . This explains why I thought it was so hard on fuel(would go thru 5 gallons then read empty).If anyone else has experienced this please let me know. Other than this it has worked fine , it starts unbelievable in the cold Alberta cold . I used it in -38 weather this winter and other than stiff hydraulics it worked perfect. Anyhow thats my 2 cents.

Hey Montana Green.... My 4340 has the same problem with the fuel gauge. When it reads empty you can count on about 8 gallons... a long way from the 13 or so it holds... I guess Montana really doesn't want you to run out of fuel. Ever!! But it would be nice if the gauge was somewhat accurate. The way it works now it just tells you when you are full!

48 Hours

Used for Cutting and Baling around 60 acres of grass hay - Will probably do around 90 acres this year. Also for all the other general farming stuff. Road grading, discing small areas of pasture for seed preparation, digging and grading around the house, stump removal and pulling my 2 wheel drive old farmall out of the mud.

I would consider another Montana just due to the price alone. To get the same features in a Deere with the same HP it would cost about 15,000 more.

Only 2 complaints so far: 1- Stiff shifting on the 4 speed selector - kinda hard to find 3rd and 4th sometimes. 2- Poor quality of some of the smaller rubber hoses and caps. They seem to be aging and cracking prematurely.

I have a 4940c with 160 hours.
Used for hay, general farm work, road maintenance, garden work, and any other excuse I can find to use it.
I would buy a Montana again without hesitation. No problems so far.

Would you consider buying Montana again? Yes! I would only buy one if it came with a service manual.

Really nice machine, lots of options included (rear hyd). I went one model bigger to get the Mitsubishi engine and don't regret it!

-approx. 150
What do you use it for?
-Have 5foot shredder, FEL with pallet forks and quick attach, Box blade, rear blade, Bush hog PHD, 8 foot disc (on loan), logging tongs, 7 foot shredder (on loan), grapple on FEL bucket, pulling neighbour's 75 hp JD and 7 foot shreadder out of the mud (love the creeper mode).
-Use it for logging, doing spring plowing right now, driving T-posts, installing steel fence posts, 11 foot high work platform (better than ladder), digging up septic lines, and anything else I can think of in order to use it.
Would you consider buying Montana again?
-had a bad gas tank which took forever to get replaced (under warranty), also leaking hydraulic line and bad cylinder. But love the tractor. The cab is great as it gets really hot here in East Texas in the summer and the A/C keeps me nice and cool. I'd buy another Montana in a heart beat. Really need better dealers in the area though. Nearest one is a 1 1/2 drive away and at the price of diesel.......well, you know.
Any other input?
Having a heck of a time finding a place to install ammo box for chains and pins etc. Got a nice tool kit with the tractor but don't have a good place to put it. Got the new coffee cup holder, but broke it the other day....pity. Also have installed a portable 12volt cooler on right side of cab. Nice to have cold water and other beverages. My controls on the cab model come installed on the fender and I love it that way.
One thing my FEL bounces pretty hard when I lift it up when just starting up (hyd. fluid cold). Anyone have any thoughts?

for soda or coffee holder and a place to put pins and stuff I went to walmart to the boat section they a box that was held in place with suction cups. I got one with a cup holder built in and one without. I have them on each inner finder and they are held in place by the suction cups attached to the cab window. Nice cheap solution and works very well. Wont help with the chain issue but for your hookup pins etc it works well.

Would you consider buying Montana again? In a heartbeat. I love this tractor!

I'm still looking for a way to store some tools and a dozer chain. I've got all the 3-pt controls on the right hand fender, and the electric cooler and cup holders on the right-hand fender. I'm thinking about getting a small truck tool box to throw behind the seat, but that doesn't cover the dozer chain. Right now it's laying on the floor in front of the seat, but it gets in my way there. Any ideas?

Here's a couple photos of us lifting a new hot tub up on the back porch deck right after I got the tractor last October. That was the first real job we used it for. It's done a lot more since then.
