K Mart has it on sale this week for $4 a quart and Wal-Mart regularly retails the 5 qt. jug for something like $19.83.

I have rarely seen any bargains at K Mart, and Walmart regular price is better by 4 cents a quart in the 5 quart bottle. If it is a sale, then the savings have to be worthwhile for me to want to stock up.

Had an 82 Accord, used Mobil1, had 248000 miles when I traded, didn't use any oil. 89 Accord, used Mobil1, had 228000 miles when I traded, didn't use any oil. 95 Odyssey, use Mobil1, has 167000 miles, don't use oil. 87 Nissan P/u, use Mobil1, has 172000 miles, don't use oil. In all these, I changed filter every 5000 miles, and topped up the oil. Changed oil and filter at 20000 miles. I think it's working ok for me. I'm sold on it, will change the Kubota to Mobil1 at next change, haven't decided about change intervals, probably go 100 hrs and have the oil analyzed to see how it's holding up.

I stopped at Walmart to pick up a 5 quart jug on Sunday. They were stocked out so I went to the service counter to ask when it would be in stock and the service guy pointed to their clearance shelf. $4/qt for full synthetic 0w30, I picked up 12 quarts and he tells me it's half price if I take it all. Needless to say I took all 49 quarts... I felt like I'd hit the lottery /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Junkman,
My Tacoma uses 6 qts. per oil change and my wife's Pathfinder uses 3 5/8 qts. per oil change, so I usually buy it in both quart and 5 quart containers just to make life a little easier. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I run Mobil 1 in my 335/20HP JDGT. Motor doesn't use oil and doesn't leak either. Currently at 400+ hours. Using Synthetic Rotella in my 2210 and Valvoline "Blue" severe-duty synthetic in my Duramax. Very happy with the results in all vehicles. I also used M1 in a 98 Chevy truck with 5.7 that I did a lot of towing with and it didn't leak and used only a small amount of oil when under heavy load. The engine ran cool in the summer and was very easy to start in the winter even at -20 degrees.

The only issue I've ever had with synthetic - bought my parent's 96 Pontiac Bonneville with 40K miles. Switched to M1 and a leak slowly developed around the oil pan. By 80K miles it was irritating me enough that I had it fixed. Now the engine doesn't leak at all. Synthetic does tend to find ways to leak out where dino oil will not, but if the seals are exposed to synthetic early on, they should be just fine for the life of the motor.

Hi..what's your opinion of "early on"? I just got a 2004 Chevy 4x4 with the 5300 engine (think it's a 326c.i.) It just turned 900 miles. How long do you think I have to wait for Mobil 1?

Thank's George
