( I once tipped five dollars for a milkshake at a Sonics. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It was a young girl on roller skates that brought my pineapple shake and she bit the dust not five feet from the fender of my pickup. Poor kid. She juggled that cup like it was full of nitroglycerin and didn't spill a drop, but she skint herself up pretty badly and she was trying so hard not to cry. I could just see her quitting at the end of the day, so I tipped her five bucks. So sue me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Sue you, Naw, I think we should kiss you! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif You are a good person Cindi.

( i don't leave a good tip, so therefore the next time i go into that restaurant i will get medicore service (cause i don't tip well) now inorder to get good service i am expected to tip well in hopes i will get better service the next time? )

Its much worse than that. By not tipping you will inspire (perhaps insure) revenge. If you don't tip well you really do not want to return to the restaurant. Low or no tipping will lead to something disgusting being done to your next meal at the restaurant not better service.

Look at some of the sites where food service people talk to each other: The Stained Apron , BitterWaitress , or eGullet.

From Stained Apron's 'Why Tipping is so Important' page

...
If you are one of those despicable types who doesn't believe in tipping and who frequents the same restaurants repeatedly, I GUARANTEE the servers are doctoring your food or throwing it on the floor and then back onto your plate or worse. If you don't tip at least 15%, I bet you have ingested your server’s saliva at least once.

Read the stories of revenge. As long as something disgusting is served to the target, there is no concern that the same adulterated food is served to the next customer as well. That some of the customers are unreasonable, demanding and out of line is clear. The adulteration of their food is still wrong. Yet the servers writing on these sites brag about it.

The stories of revenge inflicted on customers (as well as restaurant owners and management) are enough to make one learn to cook at home.

To people who don't tip:

If you can't afford to pay the tip then don't go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant in the first place. You can always go to McDonalds, etc. if you don't want to cook.

I have been in the Restaurant buisiness since I was 16. I have seen Mr and Mrs two dimes under the saucer more times than you can possibly imagine. I have seen servers in near tears after waiting on huge partys for an entire evening with ZERO tip and they got Darn good service. In my entire life I have NEVER EVER seen or even heard whisperings of any thing like that ever being done. You can always find some crazy hype on the internet on any subject. When I was young and working in Florida we had many Canadians that would never tip and the girls knew it. They were not happy but NEVER bitter either, they just laughed it off. Tipping to the extent we do was not customary for them. Many would come every day for the whole season. Thats just vile and While it may have happened once or twice by some psycho it can also probably be said that some where some place some one negotiated a better deal on a car or a tractor etc and the sales person dumped water or a candy bar etc in the fuel tank. People do odd things for odd reasons. This is certainly NOT indicitive of the restaurant buisiness. If I ever caught a staff member doing this they would be fired and prosecuted. I dont think this has any bearing to those who go out and occasionally do not tip or do not tip the "norm".

Tampering with someone's food is HANGING offense if a gun can't be found quickly enough. There is no excuse for doing something like that. It's low and cowardly and I would end up in jail over it if I knew someone had done it to me. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Dave,

No not everybody pays a $100k but alot of docs do pay it. It has happened in a # of states. Many docs left because the insurance was too high. And you can't practice without it or you can't get on insurance plans. I can say I do pay alot more than $20k a year for insurance.

As far as my office I have way more than $500k in my office. I have over a $150k just in rehab equipment. My xray machine with the table, high freq., all the extremity cassetes and special collimination and filter equipment for extremities was alot more than $60k. Everybody in business for themselves has their cross to bear though. I'm not saying mine is anymore or less than anyone else. But the #'s I gave are real for a small percentage of docs.

On a lighter note the NFR was great. I had to fly back to work a few days in the office last night and I'll be headed back for the finals this weekend.

Richard, now that I agree with. I apolagize for the tone in that post. I reread it later and realized it didnt read quite the way I wanted it too. I was feeling a little bit grilled in regards to those in my field getting a free ride. Their are scoundrels and good guys in any field. I am very certain that all of us here work hard for a honest living. I have read and heard their are those who pay that much for insurance I just think the average is much lower. The only reason I raised it was that it seemed the inference was in the restaurant buisiness there is a low over head Vs other fields. HOPEFULLY the amount each of us invests in our buisinesses, weather patching Cowboys, feeding them or selling them Horse food all comes back to us in a proportianate way. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Glad to hear your haveing a good time ! Trying to keep up with it on the TV /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Not quite the same), I just set with my boots and hat on in front of the TV hopeing the CFO remembers to put the NFR on the " to do" list for next year. Did you make it to any of the other stuff ? Cowboy christmas or the SASS convention ? Remember Doc, Dont squat with yer spurs on ! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
