Good job Eddy. I've received a couple of guns as gifts throughout my life and they are my most cherished guns/possessions.

Awesome Eddy! Sounds like you two will be pals for sure.

We put a hundred rounds through it yesterday and had a lot of fun with it. The trigger is very nice. It has an adjustable rear site, but we where both hitting the target enough times to think the sites are dead on and we just need a little more practice.

To say he was happy would be an understatement. He broke down and cried when he opened the case it came in. His mom told me that nobody had ever done anything like that for him before.

Eddie

That's awesome! Glad he his happy. Sounds like a good kid.

for a first gun its hard to beat a full size glock, in any caliber. 17 for 9mm, 22 for 40s&w or 21 in 45acp.

There are times when you can feel just as good about giving a gift as the person receiving it. This is one of those. Awesome story.

Heck, I even feel good about it! Heartwarming.

I've worked on the car of a poor single mom that is a friend of the family several times. Seeing her cry out of sheer happiness makes me realize that the blessing is for the giver!

I have been lurking here on TBN for some time, trying to gain some tractor savvy before my first purchase. I have not posted until now... I guess a topic finally came up that I know a little about! I really like the S&W Shield 9mm. It's a great gun at a good price. In GA, you can buy a gun from another GA resident without going through a dealer. I am not sure about Texas, but you could check out armslist.com for used Shields and eliminate yourself from any government databases. The gun has only been in production for a few years, so "used" may mean a couple boxes of shells. You should be able to get one for $400 or less. It makes a great carry gun.

I was thinking the same thing, I would have loved to be there to see him receive this nice gift. Very thoughtful Eddie.

Don't do it!!!

Supreme court said yesterday you can go to jail for giving someone a gun. A retired cop bought a gun for his uncle because he could get a discount. Signed the form saying it was for his personal use, then went to another dealer where his uncle got a background check and the ex cop sold him the gun.
Later, related to another investigation, cops found what he had done and charged him with a "straw man" sale, illegal. Case went to the supremes, he lost and is facing up to 5 years in the big house.

There is a difference in buying a gun with intent to resale and gifting one.

As long as the recipient can legally own a hand gun, as in not a felon, I don't think there is any danger in gifting.
