Your upright freezer runs forever?

No upright...but I have a Sears "Coldspot" chest freezer; don't remember exactly but the tag on it says it was built in ~1952! So 70+ years with absolutely no maintenance except for defrosting every year.
I bet that thing is using electricity. Those old freezers liked lots of electricity.

I bought this freezer sensor with alert to keep an eye on freezer temps when I lost half of our upright freezer's contents due to the GFCI outlet it was plugged into dying. Some things that were buried stayed frozen (just barely) and tossed into the chest freezer (which is now an absolute disaster of a mess) and fridge freezers, other things got melted and given to the chickens.

I have a probe in the upright freezer and in the chest freezer and get an alert whenever someone opens one of them - I have the alert set to 5°F so that if a fault occurs, I have time to deal with it before anything actually melts.

I also had a nightmare with GICI electric outlet in the garage that had to be replaced to the regular outlet for freezer.

Had an 7 year old Kenmore chest freezer that quit on us. Of course Kenmore doesn't supply the OEM thermal switch anymore. Found one, 120v, that looked like the old one, fiddled a bit with it's mounting points and connectors and installed it. Cycles just fine now, after two years. $14 repair. :)

I have been using the controller for about 20 years that Home Brewers were using to run freezers at the temperatures they want on our commercial upright freezer for our business, we also have another chest freezer for our business.

We switched to this for personal use. Easier to see what we have and we grind and mix our own ground beef and breakfast and Italian sausage so each one can have a drawer

Nice!

Looks a lot like ones I used to use for work.

Do you have any information? Model? Brand? Cost?

All the best,

Peter

Better hope it never needs a recharge. You cannot purchase R11 or 12 anymore.

You got your money's worth Mr. DesertEagle...

It has cost you 48 cents per month since you purchased it considering its retail price in 1955!

Purchase price was zero. A close friend gave it to me when he retired and moved out of state some 40 years ago. He didn't want to take it with him...it was already 30 years old so maybe he thought it was old and wouldn't last much longer? So my only cost is for the electricity to run the thing...which isn't much because it doesn't run that much....it sits in a basement where the temperature rarely gets above 50 degrees.
