Be very careful taking it apart when they assemble these they use self tapping bolts that tend to sieze and gall up in the holes when you try to remove them. Apply penetrating oil to the holes the day before you intend to work on it. If a bolt refuses to move heat the area with a propane torch and use more oil. Once you get a bolt to start moving work it back and forth until it moves freely and comes out. I've broken several of these bolts and unless you have the right equipment they are a pain to drill out. The service manual says to use new regular threaded bolts when you put it back together but you may have to run a tap in the holes first.

Thanks for the help with the instruction books. I have took the unit apart and put it back together again. The problem was what I thought it would be after looking at the diagrams in the instructions. I thought it would be one of the check valves open or one of the relief valves open. The forward relief valve [item 26 on page 1 of the ZT-2800 service schematic] had a little chip of metal caught in it. I had no problem with the screws or bolts in taking it apart. It is now running fine.

HI I hate to drag up an older thread... but...

My local dealer here has a Z-force 60 machine.. with a kohler command 23hp...

I am trying to figure out how to tell what year it is.. so I cam make a offer...

or should I pass on this unit.... figured here would be the best place to ask...

Veno, is it new, old stock or a used unit? It's no newer than a 2009. The biggest Z-Force you can get for 2010 is a 54" and they all have Kohler Courage twins. There's got to be a way you can tell from the labeling or serial number, but that may take a call to Cub to determine. That was probably a $5000+ unit when new and you can get a brand-new Z-Force 54" for $4799, so keep that in mind.

On the oil filter side of the engine there should be a Kohler sticker with engine build date. The will give you a rough idea of how old it is. Also if you look under the seat there's a Cub Cadet sticker with the model and serial number, write them down, post them here and I might be able to determine the model year.

Its new.. asking is 4100.00 what is throwing me is the Kohler command 23hp... I figured it was like a 2006. 07. 08... figure it to be 2 years old.... so I was trying to haggle the price a bit more..


it is this Model of Z force so what kinda age would this be?

is there any concerns with this unit?

The 2005-2006 models had the Kohler engine and looked like the picture you posted. I think the later models all had Kawasaki engines.

I think I paid around $3400 for my Z Force 50 back in 2006 and I think the 60" was $4800 list price back then. I'd see if he'll take $3500-3600 for it. If he's had it in inventory this long he might jump at it.

ok... what transmissions were on this? were they the 2800's or the lesser IZT?

I would hope the 2800's at a minimum having to drag around that 60" deck. I agree with OM in that I wouldn't go a dime over $3600. He'll be sitting on that one a long time at $4100.
