Although I'm actually a pretty patient person, I wind up wanting to rip my tractor in half every 10* hours when I grease it. I have a very hard time getting my grease gun nozzle on the zerk fittings. Are these metric zerks or something? Is there something that I should know? I do clean them off thoroughly before putting the gun anywhere near them. I have just an ordinary hand-pumped grease gun from a typical automotive place.

I'm half tempted to weld a zerk fitting to the end of my grease gun and then when I need to grease, I'll thread these fitting in, pump in the grease, and replace the old zerk fittings with caps.

I had this issue with many zerks I ran across, including those in my 4WD drivetrain (yes, I'm one of those geeks that ACTUALLY lubricates his driveshaft universals...)

I have long since given up on the flexible hose fitting on my grease gun and went with the hard-pipe assembly. That way you can really yank on it when you're angry.

So, yes. I've had the same problem. Real pain in the rear with gooey grease.

Next upgrade: Continuous flow grease gun. Get tired of pulling the trigger after the first tube of grease...

I think that moving away from the flexible hose will be a good move. The gun's fine on my vehicles (or was when I cared enough to change my own oil), but having a separate gun for my tractor would be fine. The flexible hose isn't needed at all. One good thing about greasing the tractor is I'm not lying on my back with crud falling in my eyes while doing it. :D

The tip on most grease guns can be adjusted for slightly larger, or smaller fittings. See if unscrewing the very tip of the nozzle just a bit helps.

I hear ya, Ray. I have lost more skin off my knuckles until I started wearing gloves. I have even broken off a few zerks in frustration and had to replace them. If you wear a set of heavy gloves you will get a better grip and an easier time pulling it off. I found that a rigid adapter did little to help.

Try a new tip on your gun, there are needles you can use to inject grease in the zerk. just line up with the small ball.

Like CHuckinNH posted, most tips can be adjusted by either unscrewing or screwing in the tip. Put a wrench on the body and use a pr of vice grips or channel locks on the tip to adj. Some tips will even take a wrench to adj it. Adjustable tips can be purchased and are a direct replacement for non-adjustable ones.
I've got a Lincoln air powered grease gun and greasing is so easy now that I end up using too much. I go through alot of grease. I grease everything at 10 hr engine increments, whether the BH, FEL and MMM have been worked that amount of time or not :D

Some very helpful and encouraging posts. Thanks everyone. I'm almost looking forward to my next greasing. :D It took me about 2.5 hours to grease, what, like 25 points or so?

Wow 2.5 hours! I can grease mine in about 10 to 15 minutes unless I have to change out the grease tube, than add 30 minutes. I also cheated and bought me a grease gun to tun off my air compressor. I also have a tank that I use (one of those you fill up with a compressor).

I got tired of busting my knuckles too. Makes short work of it and the grease gun was only about $30 at Sears. I wanted a battery one, but I can buy like 6 of the air powered for the price of one of thouse. I also got about a 24" hose on it, wearing gloved or wrapping the end in a good shop rag gives plenty of grip to get them on the fittings, especially the MMM.

Yup had the same problem on my BX24 the other day...first time greasing the loader and backhoe...first one I touched, the darn thing would not come off... Then as I went around the BX there was only one other one that gave me a problem...an old mechanic friend said the same thing about opening up the tip of the grease gun a little...next time I'll try that...by the way it's not just the Kubota...my Exmark Lazer HP gave me the same fits on a couple of its zerks...
