The flexible hose isn't needed at all.

Uuuh...try getting to the lower backhoe swing pivot zerk on a BX24 without a flexible hose..I couldn't due to the angle, had to put a flex hose on the manual grease gun I was using to get in there. Maybe your rigid grease tube has a different angle than the 3 or so I tried....

DejaVu on the adjustable couplings ... I posted awhile back about that and how I also found under very close inspection there IS a difference in different nozzle's construction- I finally found a good one that had 4 little chuck pieces in it that grip the zerk rather than 3 and it works a whole lot better. The quality of the little rubber ring seal also varies alot. I wish I could recall exactly the brand of the good one I found, I think I may have bought it at Northern Tool.

I also went cordless when I ran across a good sale, never thought I'd see the day I needed that rather than a hand pump gun but it works pretty darn well, especially when you have a leaky zerk, and you need a free hand to press the coupling on with extra pressure and only have one hand left to operate the grease gun:cool:

I have a BX23 and no problems greasing.

I use a flexible hose and an adjustable end set to just fit the zerks.

Goes on/off easily with only an occasional leak from not being fully square.

I think the adjustable end makes all the difference.

I use a pistol grip gun with flex hose. Set the chuck (the tip is actually called a chuck, BTW and I've never seen one that could not be loosened.) to go on and off easily, plug in with one hand, 3 or 4 squeezes with the other hand and move on. I can't imagine taking more than about 10 minutes to grease unless I have to dig out dirt packed in around the BH zerks.

To change the grease cartridge quickly with no mess:
Pull the T handle back and lock.
Screw off the head of the gun.
Release the T handle and it will push out the old cartridge. If you let it go, it will usually shoot the old cartridge right into your trash can so you don't even have to touch it. Assuming of course that you have some reasonable aim.
Pull the T handle back and lock.
Take the plastic cap off the new cartridge and drop it into the gun.
Pull the tab top off and scrape against the top of the cartridge to get the grease that sticks to the metal.
Replace the head.
Release the T handle and push it in.
Ready to GO! No mess, no grease on the hands.

After using, wipe the gun down with a rag and a little diesel fuel. Keeps the gun from attracting dirt and makes the job less messy next time.

Well, to be picky, you better tell Lincoln, Plews and Alemite it isn't a coupler but a chuck.

Alemite employed Oscar U Zerk, who invented the Zerk greasing system in 1924, patented in 1929, and he called it a "coupling member" :D

Trivia lesson now over:cool:

Nevermind what it's called, I just feel stupid that I didn't know they were adjustable!

Yeah, I knew Zerk invented the thing but I confess I couldn't remember his first name. Maybe I'm getting old, but years ago all the mechanics that I knew referred to the fitting an "Alemite" and the "coupler" as a "chuck". Looks like some few people at least, still do. :)

Just greased up my BX24 with a hand pump grease tube with a rigid offset angle tube. Was able to get to every one. I've used the flexible hose type and have foun d they pop off as you start pumping.
