In the ZT market today, the gas fuel injected models can achieve gph numbers that are very close to there diesel counterparts. In the under $8k category, I don't think you can beat a Scag Turf Tiger for it's bang for the buck when mated with the 29 hp DFI Kawasaki V-Twin. IMO, Scag makes the best and most reliable ZT and if not for the fact that I needed another tractor with a loader instead of just a grass cutting machine, then I would have bought the Scag. I have 11 acres to maintain, 7 of that grass, and a zero turn would have been a great option. All that said though, I think I would still end up buying the diesel version of any mower, that's just my preference.

I have 10 acres I mow weekly in the summer here in Florida. I had a Scag 72", 28hp Kubota Magnum III for ten years, a very good mower. Then I bought a Hustler 72" rear discharge, 31hp Kawsaki. What a difference, 10 acres was 7 hours, now it's 4 hours! The Super Z is twice the mower the Scag was. It cost me $9350 including tax, delivered to my home. The Hustler Super Z has far surpassed the Scag in quality, durability, very simple to service, well thought out design. I wish I had bought the Super Z 2 years earlier when it came out with the current model design.

I looked at the Hustler Super Z when I was buying and wasn't impressed. I'm sure it's a fine machine, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

What's really interesting is that you claim the Hustler with a gasoline engine is "twice the mower" of the diesel powered Scag. While I can't comment on the validity of your claim, I find it difficult to believe.

Then you add to this by claiming that it took you 7 hours to mow 11 acres with a 72 inch, diesel powered zero turn Scag. Are you serious or just trying to make a joke? I can do three acres an hour on semi rough terrain with my 60 inch gasoline Scag zero turn mower. Why would it take you twice as long to more with a bigger, more powerful mower? Ten acres should be a pretty simple 2 and a half hour job once you have the grass under control and you are just maintaining it regardless of the brand.

I bought a 04/05 SuperZ that was pretty rough. Wanted a commercial mower at a residential price. Ended up rebuilding the Kaw 25HP engine replaced a couple of idler pulleys and modified the deck(according to Hustler recommendations). The cut, the speed of this machine is just great. It's a hoss! I would highly recommend Hustlers - new or used.

My brother in law just bought a Scag Turf Tiger - he loves it, but I can't imagine it performs any better than mine.

You can't touch a turf tiger in this area for under $8K, especially one with fuel injection. Even my Wildcat with LQ 26 hp Kaw was a little over $8K.

Hi all, my 22 year old gravely just died and I'm looking to replace it with a ztr unit but, well, I guess I'm looking for your opinions. I mow 11/2 acres and my brother in law mows about 1 acre, it is just for us. I want to get a unit that lasts, and one that I'm not kicking myself for buying in a year or two, but I also understand that my use isn't going to be very demanding on it either. 48" minimum but I don't mind going up to 54". I was hoping to keep it around $4k but I can afford a bit more if it's a real good deal.

I have it narrowed down (hah) to four mowers, give or take

1. Husqvarna ez4824 2008 model, kohler 24hp $3999
2. John Deer z445 2009 model 54 " kawasaki 25hp $4549
3. Gravely zt2448xl 2008 model 48" kohler 25 hp $4300
4. Hustler Fastrak 48" 2008 model 48" honda 18 hp $4799
5. (ok 5 mowers but who's counting) Badboy zt60 2008 model B&S 26hp $4850

All have fabricated/not stamped decks, all are new, I guess I'm looking for any feedback good or bad that would help.

i have friends with 4 different model ztr mowers: gravely, ferris, hustler and jd: only one complains about his mower, he says it will not throw the grass out from under the deck when its damp: the others say they mow in the rain with no problems. the ferris an gravely owners both took the hustler home and tried it out before buying what they bought??
