I was a teenager when an older gentleman asked me for a 5/16 burr. He got farily upset when I had to ask him what a burr was. Old timer slang for a hex nut, never heard it said again but always remembered it.

heh....this reminds me of a boss I had years ago. He was a retired air force colonel and I believe originally from Alabama area. He pronounced toilet as "turlit" and drawer as "draw"....and creek as "crik". I did not like that man....

Or the time I worked doing architectural drawings, and an intern in the office spec'd a foundation plan with "pee gravel". He thought ... I won't go there.
