I wish I had one of these new tractors with them there zippys. Zippys were not yet invented when mine was built.
Now to get a bit more serious: I have to think back and laugh at my days designing AG tillage equipment and all the admonitions we got from management reference zip ties. The problem is that equipment is becoming exponentially more complicated with added hoses, wires, cables and what not. Marketing would like to see all of this neatly bundled using only brackets, enclosures etc. but no zip ties. Problem is that this adds cost to the product given the complexity of new equipment today. As to the quality of the zip tie I would say this is no place to skimp.

I've bought 15 Kubotas, getting close or was getting close to buying number 16 and then this unbelievable and disgusting use of zip ties that are white and not cut right ..........well, I don't know how to feel about it. I guess I'll maybe look closer at the JD that's only $3000 more or the NH that's only $2500 more and see if they are doing this shocking practice that could be extremely dangerous and using kids to install them is just totally unacceptable!
If and I'm saying a big qualifying IF the one I'm about to buy has white uncut ties installed by kids to keep hoses from rubbing and wearing and keeping wires sort of bundled together should I NOT buy it??? You discriminating buyers please help me with this because I do NOT want to buy a low quality machine that may not perform to my standards and do the job I'm buying it for and stuff like this, well to tell the truth I've not really being paying the attention that I should have in making my buying decisions so please let me know of other major concerns like this that I've truthfully just not been giving the scrutiny and time that I should have been.:ashamed:
Any way this is another reason that I love this forum for the OCD members that keep us blind to major faults and problems that many of us just never see or if we do we have failed to make it a expose' topic here.
Can other brand buyers please report in concerning your brand and how much better, same or worse this white dangerously cut zip tie problem is with your machines. Now you other color guys that are always hunting for a chink in the Kubota armor hurry and go forth and post this on the other color threads and for sure post back here to inform us Kubota supporters what crappy machines we own.:ashamed:
OK, yes I've been gone a few days and am getting pretty desperate to find a thread to respond to. Keep it up you searchers for the flaws club!!

Oh by the way. Many if not most Kubotas are shipped as engines, bodies and wheel assemblies. Tires, sometimes seats, FELs and Bhs and maybe steering wheels are then installed at the dealers, they have to do something for their money. Maybe, and I just say maybe a dealer has over the years had a problem with some of the wiring, hoses, cables wearing and have taken it upon them selves to do additional tying not knowing that it maybe be judged as something bad when they intended it to be something good, extra and above other dealers. I don't know but maybe, just maybe that's why there are some of the terribly bad white ones are in seemingly hidden locations.:)

LOL

I looked around I think my old ford has some. I wonder if it was a factory upgrade. Is there a guide to zip ties maybe I could check the era of them or manufacturer...
My work truck has about 50lb of zipties on it. I spend too much time of my life searching for problems because people are too sloppy to secure a wire or hose from vibration with zip ties. Makes me money though. I have not noticed a lot of zip tie cuts but that could be because the wife says my hands are rough and manly. Lol

And what ELSE did you do while you were there? Enquiring minds want to know! :) LOL

Sent from my iPad using TractorByNet

Yesterday I bought a gallon of Kubota oil and an oil filter for a Kubota F3080 for which I myself am going to change the oil and filter myself. I do all service on my Kubotas, all 15 of them, myself, except for two factory warranty claims which I had the dealer do the repairs. One of those was replacing the FEL hydraulic arms on a L3240 several years ago and recently Barlows replaced the steering pump/motor on a fairly new F3080. I was considering doing it myself but Barlows done it under warranty in one day. I've also got to pick up some antifreeze to replace the antifreeze, myself, In my older F3080 which isn't the least bit technical and I know because I replaced the antifreeze in the F2680 when I owned it. I've never rec'd any zip tie cuts that I can remember, ever but I'm getting a bit older and maybe just forgot since I'm often times finding cuts on myself that I'm not sure when or where I got them.
Yesterday at Barlows, for inquiring minds, I priced my new Kubota F3080 72" rear discharge deck and now have a locked down price and all info is entered waiting for Steve Barlow to push the enter button to get number 16 on it's way. If my potential purchaser shows Saturday and says "Yes, yes I want your 3+ year old F3080 ".
For those that don't know I trade often and have never rebuilt any Kubota engine or transmission or any major work like many of you. For that I do not apologize and for those of you that do all your own major repairs, for which I've never had any need to with any of my Kubotas, I'm proud of you and applaude:drink: you for your knowledge and abilities to keep those tractor in like new condition after hundreds or thousands of hours. I've always worked at other jobs to earn money to pay experienced mechanics, well, even Doctors and maybe a few other people with special knowledge and experience and abilities to do things I don't feel comfortable or knowledgeable enough or just don't want to do. I started to say I'm sorry I'm so lazy or stupid but I'm not going to. I've worked fairly, dare I say hard, since I was 15 (51 years ago) with usually 2 jobs at a time so I could afford to pay for others to do some jobs for me and yes, I trade often or as often as I can afford to.:) I've never been a mechanic for hire or an engineer and never really wanted to. I've always been in people jobs like sales, teaching, administration and counseling but no mechanicing or engineering soooooo I guess zip ties and cuts from them are not priorities for me or maybe I'm just more careful or don't mind a little cut evry now and then, not saying I like em or want more of them but just not to afraid of them. A little blood letting from time to time is good for some people, maybe or for sure not for hemophiliacs but I usually stop bleeding pretty quick when the stitches are pulled tight enough.

Well it's obvious the zip tie issue isn't just on my end. I know some might find it amusing to see the zip ties like they are on these Kubota's and even more amusing that it bothers some but the fact is not cutting the zip ties to the end lock is really a hazard for the service technician and the customer alike. As a service tech myself I've had some major scratches cause the sharp ends left on the zip tie and it's not only dangerous it's also very unprofessional to leave them that way. I'm sure this wasn't done at the dealer level because there's to many out there cut the exact same way. Kubota should be ashamed of themselves to let this go like that and the dealer should be picking up on the issue at the time of P.D.I. (Pre delivery inspection)

Again. Some might not think of this as a none serious issue but it is very serious. If you work in fluids related to equipment and you get a bad scratch from these zip ties you can end up with a very serious injury. There is a simple tool built exclusively for cutting zip ties and for less than $5.00 it's well worth it. Cut the ties as short as you can so you don't cause anyone any harm.

Thank you 4shorts for discussing this. You always explain things very well and professionally. My hat off to you!

Interesting your photo is nearly identical to mine. Definitely from the factory! Because KY is a long way from Newfoundland! LOL!

I'll be talking with Kubota this Feb at the National Farm Machinery Show. They need to come up with a better method for their wire/hose securing. I have a feeling this issue is only on American assembled equipment.

Paul those flush-cutting side-cutters look pretty nice, but if you don't have any of those, you can use your regular side-cutters and if they still leave a "razor-blade" sticking up you can hit the "razor-blade" with a file or emery board just a stroke or two, and it will leave it smooth as a prom queens thighs. :)

Hey Papa no thanks necessary. I appreciate your kind comments. Thank you for the great thread. I don't get a lot of time to look around the site between work and my personal stuff so I'm sorry to be so late responding. Yup it's a factory/assemble thing. The people that do that sort of thing is only after a pay cheque. Quality is not in there sites at all in my opinion. They went to the trouble to cut the zip tie so you would think it would be just as easy to do it right :confused3:
Just no pride left in today's society. Sad, Very sad :(

Good point James. I've used it all from a knife to a side cutter but those little cutters I have pictured work so well. "will leave it smooth as a prom queens thighs" Now that's funny right there

Easy to see the people that work on machines themselves and who take their machines in for service... Or just trades it in....

I agree.

To follow John's thoughts, I don't think anyone said specifically that a Kubota with white or uncut zip ties is trashy or junky or whatever. I think the comments were simply each person's interpretation of quality control.

I think a mechanic's duty when installing a zip tie is to cut it after zipping. To not do so just indicates a lack of quality assurance. Has no effect on the reliability of the tractor. Unless there are other quality control corners that he is allowed to cut.

I've had Kubota tractors seven years. I trust them as a quality, dependable tractor. Just disappoints me to see these loose ends unfinished. Kinda like the quality of Kubota paint. Adequate, but could be a LOT better with little cost input from the manufacturer.

Okay I had just had to grab these (100qty) while I was walking through a customer's factory today and saw these in the bin. I won't say who/where but it was an aerospace OEM. They use them for test/temporary systems install due to easy color recognition so they will not remain on production aircraft at delivery. I also picked up some large orange ties (about 30in long)! Now can go home and do another mod to my BX :cool2:
