Serviced the ZTR today and it proves that the Zip tie problem is at the factory level

Wow that's crazy. Guess the factory guys don't care. What gets me is there's no better solution than to use zip tie! Wire harnesses should be secured with tabs, etc. not plastic ties.

All my black zipties were uncut but they were the ones with the little tab to unlock them so i would guess they didn't cut them for reuse purposes.

If they would cut them flush then we would have a thread on the not being reusable.

There is nothing wrong with using plastic ties to secure a wire harness. I spent 12 hours just yesterday changing a compressor because someone failed to secure wires. Wires rubbed on top of compressor, shorted, and blew a hole in the top of compressor. Changed compressor and wire harness and secured with zip ties. And they will hold that harness just fine until the unit is scrapped or has another problem. I have seen more damage done to wires with overly secure mounts vs. Zip ties.

Welcome sir. I laughed when I pulled the seat up and notced them. I don't mind the plastic ties so much as the fact they don't cut them flush.

Yeah no problem using them for yourself.... what I'm saying is an OEM shouldn't use them for securing wiring and hoses. Generally a clamp and strap or tab is used.

Open up your hood on your vehicle and see how many zip ties are you used to SECURE hoses and wire harnesses to vehicle. Most likely manufacture is using something more substantial than a zip tie!

I took these comments that they were meant like they were said. I also enjoyed the one earlier about being able to see who works on stuff and who takes to dealer etc. There are not many tractors that stack the hours of the equipment I work on especially in the conditions. Zip ties excel there at securing wires/tubing and they last. (the proper ones of course used within reason)

I favor Zip Ties. Use them all the time. But when I do, I install them properly, tidying up whatever I'm holding before zipping and always cut the ends flush.

As for the people that don't like the thread. I can't even think of anything constructive to say to someone that reads an entire thread and then complains about it's existance. Heheheheheheh.

Hey Papa... I know you are probably just talking tractors here but please be aware that there are many reasons to use cable tie straps instead of clamps or other mounts. Some zip ties even leave our atmosphere on various vehicles, made from special materials, some have the teeth on the exterior side instead of interior to prevent wear/chaffing. Specific reasons for their use might be due to: weight. vibration, outgassing, electromagnetic interference, dielectric properties... to name a few.
