ZTR 's ?

Re: ZTR \'s ?

have been using a Grasshopper 721, 62" that I bought used for about eight years mowing about 5 acres. I don't see how you could ask anymore from a lawnmower, fast as you want to go, cuts beutiful, economical. It replaced a 48* John Deere and a 48" Cub Cadet. I think any of the better ZTR's will turn out to be the cheapest lawnmower you can buy in the long run.

Re: ZTR \'s ?

We just got a Kubota ZD21 with a 60" Pro Deck.

It is a 21hp three cylinder diesel with a heavy duty commerical hand welded 7 gauge steel deck.

It is beyond awesome, where was this thing these last twenty years when I wore out half a dozen gasser riding lawnmowers?

Super smooth, super quiet, no vibration and cuts 10 acres of bahia grass in the horse pasture in less than 4 hours without a wimper, and turns around every tree in one pass in a couple of seconds.

These Kubota diesel ZTRs have to be experienced to be believed. Super heavy duty quality and first class workmanship.

Re: ZTR \'s ?

dkb1215, what mower did your neighbor buy. Is a commercial husqvarna mower or is it the 48" cosumer z that they sold for around 3500-4000 in lowes last year. Thanks in advance.

Re: ZTR \'s ?

I was in the exact position you are in last month, and just purchased a Gravely 52" ZTR Home. It has the same motor as their commercial mowers and seemed well built. After using it to cut my 3 acres I could not be more pleased. For Just over 4 thousand it is a wonderful mower! Good luck making your decision.

Re: ZTR \'s ?

In a ZTR quandary as the rest of you seem to be. I am looking for a 72" diesel ZTR and have narrowed things down to Kubota ZD28/72 and a Gravely 272Z. Little more power from the Gravely, a little faster top speed (though that may not be a factor with my land). Seems the best prices I have to this point put the Kubota priced $1500 below the Gravely. Is the extra 3 horse power and the Eye-Q system on the Gravely really worth the extra money? Are there perhaps some other differences that are not evident that I should be looking for? Just looking for some thoughts from anyone with experience with either of these mowers.

Re: ZTR \'s ?

Paint_ball, If I could get a kubota diesel for less than a gravely , it would be a done deal! The hp difference is more than made up in the torque of the diesel, not to mention the longeivity ,also the diesel will use less fuel than the gravely for a given amount of mowed grass..
Oh were you talking about a gravely with a diesel? well my bad!! You probably won't notice 3 hp and the eye-Q ,How many people will be driving the mower? It's more of a maintenance reminder than anything else..

Re: ZTR \'s ?

Both the Kubota and Gravely I am looking at are diesel. 28 hp from the Kubota, 31 from the Gravely. I'd have to agree witht he Eye-Q being an electronic log book...just one more thing to go wrong in my estimation. One of the problems I have had with my current 48" Snapper ZTR mower is the poor design of the deck. It just packs the grass up into and around the two outer pulleys. It has to be blown out and picked out prior to each cutting or I risk a small fire (voice of experience on that one). Anything particularly good or bad about either the Kubota or Gravely that I should be aware of before my final decision?

Re: ZTR \'s ?

Paintball_Barn, Well Both units are the top of the line and while you will probably be pleased with either, The Kubota has the tilt front axle that allows you to prop up front end to clean or inspect ,But it is also about 2" bigger in length and width over the Gravely. Gravely also offers an optional jack stand feature for the service /inspection thing.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
So it seems to be a toss up from my perspective so I would have to let a test drive decide for me..
Do you like red or orange better? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: ZTR \'s ?

I just purchased a ZD-28 72" ZTR from Kubota. It is GREAT! Puts so much fun back into mowing that my wife does it now. Only downside to the ztr is no suspension so my 20 acres of horse pasture are too rough for the mower. Why doesn't someone make a ztr with a suspension?
