I asked a friend about his Scag Tiger. He has been using it for quite a while and has had no problems. He cuts a lot of lawns every day and in Florida, the season is quite long. This might be the way to go. Also, the Toro commercial (not the one designed for home use) is extremely well built and durable. John

I've seen good reviews for the grasshopper on the lawn site commercial forum (a link to the forum is in the second post in this thread - THANKS RICHARD!!). Seems the pro's like them. They said they are dependable and one of the best at 'stripe-ing'. So far I haven't found a grasshopper dealer in my area. I'd be very interested to see if they have an offering around my 6k price point.

Looks like I my have to go to Columbus for Cincinatti to see a Scag, Grasshopper, Exmark or Hustler.

Folks bad mouth em on the commercial forum I mentioned in the previous post also; but they didn't give the reason why. They look good, but must not be ready for prime time mowing.

You may want to check out the NEW Kubota ZGs, zero turn mowers. Kohler air cooled, gas, shaft drive, hydraulic deck lift. There is a 20hp with a 48"deck and a 23hp with a 54" deck. These are new this season. Hope this helps.

I'll be sure to check out the new Kubota's and the toro is another one I'll add to my list.
I"ve found a grasshopper dealer close by, so I will be able to see one of them this weekend.

Moon, I have had a Scags for the last 12 years in my part time lawn service never had any major trouble with them. I have an old model ZTR 22 Kohler with a 52 inch deck. This machine has over 1000 hours on in it in the last 10 years not major usage. My neighbor runs a full time lawn service has a turf tiger with something like 800 hours on it in 1.5 years and has had no major problems. Alot of the lawn crews in this area run the Scags, hustlers or Dixie Choppers

I received a flyer from JD Equipment in London,Ohio announcing their annual used equipment sale. There was quite a list of ZTR's, various brands, various hours which they will be auctioning, I think 3/28.

The Scag's sound pretty good. I like to find a dealer in my area, but so far no luck.
Eric, I'm just down the road from you ....about 8 miles past Little Hocking, on St. Rt. 124.
Inspector507 also posted info about the auction in the 'how a dealer can loose a sale' thread.
Looks like a big auction. I'm thinking of checking it out, but first I'll be shopping the dealers in our area. I'd prefer new. I"ve had too much bad luck with used mowers.
I'll be heading to Watertown tonight to see the grasshopper line. Not sure where the dealer is, but he had an add in the local bulletin board this week. Hopefully he's not too hard to find.

Moon,
I am just north of you. We have very good friends just outside of St.Marys.
We travel down there almost every weekend.
Small world.
We have had good luck with our Country Clippers.
Joystick steering is a big plus, especially on hills.
