74 hp skid vs 74 hp hoe for building tiny acreage?

I have a Kubota B21 and L47 which do everything well, and I never have to rent anything. If you have consistent big jobs moving earth, a skid steer will do it faster no doubt. However, a good TLB like a Kubota where you can drop the backhoe quickly and have the 3 point available makes it the...

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

I had it up at close to 3000 rpm. I agree, I probably could have managed it one way or another as this test was also about 200 lbs heavier than the crate. The problem is that being wrong would have cost me big bucks quickly. The tote was only $75 and nice to have regardless.

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

My ballast is the 1,600 lb backhoe I usually leave attached to the L47.

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

O.K. The results are in. I was only able to lift the 2,330 lb IBC tote using my 412 lb forks (2,742 lbs total) about 3 ft off the ground. Rolling the forks back helped a bit, but I would not want to do that with the load. I could likely get the crate off the truck by slinging it from the...

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

I decided to buy a used IBC Tote, fill it with water, and run a test with the weight and forks. It will get rid of my stress over the issue, and I can use the tote for firewood hauling. I appreciate everyone's advice.

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

Your M9000 has a similar lift capacity to full height at pins (2,755 lbs), and my SSQA forks are Kubota PFL4648 weighing 412lbs. I hope I will be O.K. I only need to lift it a few inches to back up and get the load down to the ground. It's $175 for every 15 minutes the driver is held up if I...

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

What length and weight are your forks? Mine are 4ft and weigh 400 lbs.

    Kubota L47 fork capacity

I have a 2,200 lb crate on a flatbed tractor trailer headed my way soon. I own a Kubota L47 with 400 lb SSQA forks. So my total lift is about 2,600 lbs. Kubota specs say I can lift 2,848 lbs to full height (9.5 ft) at pivot pins. I should be lifting from the flatbed at 4 ft high. Anyone...

Grapple Heavy Grapple on Kubota L47?

Your logic of buying the heaviest grapple your tractor can safely handle has been my thinking as long as the remaining 2000 lb lift capacity is well beyond my anticipated needs. I am trading away lift capacity for durability. As I previously mentioned, accidentally crashing into buried rock or...

Grapple Heavy Grapple on Kubota L47?

It is a skeletan rock/brush grapple with eighteen 3/8" thick tines spaced 4 inches apart and six replaceable teeth. It also has a full width reinforcement bar about 4 inches behind the teeth. So yes, it has a lot of steel spaced such that small boulders won't fall through. I would certainly...

Grapple Heavy Grapple on Kubota L47?

Well, I wanted the same model in a 60 or 66 inch at around 800 lbs, but a 72 is the smallest available in a double clamp (same width as the tractor). I am curious why you feel 800 lbs is reaching the practical limit on your L47. Are you are saying the residual available lifting capacity is...

Grapple Heavy Grapple on Kubota L47?

Thanks everyone for the input. I've concluded I should be fine with the 1000 lb grapple I was considering. There are always compromises. This skeletal rock/brush grapple is construction grade, has dual clamps and replaceable tine teeth. Its configuration will also clamp down onto relatively...

Thanks, do you have CID's Heavy Duty or Extreme root grapple?

Grapple  Heavy Grapple on Kubota L47?

I am looking at buying a double claw grapple for my L47. I have my eye on two grapples weighing in the neighborhood of 1,000 lbs. The L47's lift at pins to full height is 2,800 lbs. Does anyone have experience with a heavy grapple on an L47 or similar spec tractor they can share? Just...

    3-Point Hitch  B21 Tiller

I am contemplating buying a King Kutter II 48 or 60 inch gear driven tiller. KK recommends a 20HP pto. My B21 only has 13.5 HP. Anyone have experience turning one of these with a B21? The 60" is just $30 more than the 48". Thanks,

    Better B21 Seat?

Anyone upgrade their B21 seat with something better? I am interested most in stronger suspension system and possibly arm rests, but I suspect the B21's TLB spin seat system and/or mount may not be easily upgraded with aftermarket stuff. Thanks,

    Backhoe  Bucket size on B21

I have a 16" bucket on a B21. The bucket does fine digging in relatively soft ground, but the tractor does not have the power to curl the bucket through dense clays. I was wondering if a 12" bucket would improve things significantly. Anyone have advise to offer? Thanks, Leo

3-Point Hitch  Hydraulic Position Control Question

Hello, Yesterday I was using a box blade with my B21 and noticed the blade would not lift until about position No. 7 or 8 in the range. A couple of weeks ago this would occur between position 5 and 6. Most of the position range is therefore useless at this point. Couldn't find anything in the...

Novice lifting question (Kubota specs vs. reality)

I would like to know if the lifting specs Kubota publishing for loaders and backhoes are governed mainly by available ballast or hydraulic limits. For example, my B21 specs say the loader lifting capacity is 926 lbs while the ballast (backhoe) just happens to be 986 lbs. Conversely, the...

3-Point Hitch  B21 top link and lift arm questions

Hello, I am trying to use my B21's three point hitch for the first time. I bought an after market top link from Tractor Supply that I tried to use this morning when I noticed the space between the top link brackets on my B21 is about 1/8" narrower than the top link's ball joint. Needless to...

Backhoe  Loose B21 FEL & Backhoe Control Arms

Has anyone reduced the amount of free play in their control arms? I am trying to detrmine if replacing the sleeves (part no. 75595-72150) for a B21 is typically the way this is done. I have inspected the FEL control assembly, and it appears the issue is either the sleeves or the control rod...

    B21 loader bucket slop

Hello, I recently purchased a 2005 B21 (994 Hrs) and would like to get rid of the slop I have at the loader bucket pins. I've roughly measured the specified I.D. and O.D.'s for the links, boom, pins, etc. and there seems to be some degree of wear throughout although not more than about 1mm...

    Backhoe  B21 backhoe controls reversed

O.K. I just took delivery of a used 2005 B21 for use on my property. The tractor is in great condition with 995 hrs on it. I spent a little time on it this weekend and discovered that the left backhoe control lever operates the the boom swing and the dipperstick while the right control lever...
